Doesn't need to be as big as a deer to mess up a biker, saw one of the Police Biker/Emergency /Camera Action type programmes where a grouse flew into a bikers face - fairly messed him up, despite a full face helmet.Shug wrote:Pisser, Campbell. Yep, nowt you can do sometimes.

Re: Admiral Multi Car not so cheap anymore
just for clarity, our impact speed was possibly 50ish as I was travelling at an indicated 70 - 75 - just north of Brechin on the A90.campbell wrote:
I did same as you - no swerving, just hard braking. Although if you braked hard and still hit it at 70...
I was amazed at the amount of friends and colleagues who wondered why I didn't swerve - so took time in each case to get them thinking what happens regarding weight transfer to a car at speed but braking, and the effects of a sudden swerve
It's odd in these situations where your priorities automatically focus on your loved ones (the kids were possibly 5 and 2 at the time). I can remember the shock I got when I got out and saw the damage to the car but immediately realised it was an inanimate object which wasn't important

Re: Admiral Multi Car not so cheap anymore
Started lift sharing this week with a pal from work so I thought i'd get a quote to see what it would cost to get her added to insurance, thinking it would be almost nothing as she's 30 with a good record blah blah blah.
£210
Playing around it seems the issue with multicar is that the discounts are mega when you have one less driver than cars, but they become less good when you have the same amount of cars as drivers. Very strange one
Suffice to say she aint getting added.

The more cars than drivers is pretty simple as you can not drive 2 at once

Thats why I moved to aviva, Insured Ann on both the Elise with declared mods, and the Panzerfaust 130i as a provisional licence holder for £15 less than it would for just me

Dislike admiral, renewal is twice the price and won't budge. Anyone using Liverpool Victoria?!

Re: Admiral Multi Car not so cheap anymore
Admiral's renewal for our 3 modest motors arrived last month.
At £1100, it was around 40% up on last year.
To be fair the Retention Team tried hard and got to £900.
But thanks to TescoCompare I covered each car at around £220 in every case (!), Skoda and MINI with More Than and Elise with AA.
As MC Hammer says. "You can't touch this".
So...despite a modest claim after hitting a deer last year, I have taken 15% out of our fleet insurance bill. Hoping for some brownie pts from the Financial Controller for that!
So it still pays to shop around.

Re: Admiral Multi Car not so cheap anymore
Renewal just came through - £940
1.2 panda, vx with all mods declared and CTR parked in an inner city postcode that's usually on fire. 24k miles spread across all three and Mrs Donkey insured on all cars (she passed her test 4 years ago). I'll have a look about but i think that's a pretty good price.
Oh and one of my pals at work had her 1 month old Focus ST stolen from her driveway....she was with admiral and they've been brilliant. 3 weeks after the theft they've agreed to give her full list price for the car and she says she couldn't be happier with the decision and the comms that came before hand. Reassuring.

Re: Admiral Multi Car not so cheap anymore
You might find you can get cheaper. I've been surprised how cheap my insurances have been this year: Panda 100HP - £160; Elise - £260 with a mainstream insurer (I opted to pay more to a specialist for trackday cover); just quoted for a Megane 230 R26 - £220.
Parked on street, albeit a slightly more upmarket south-side postcode! Total mileage would be less than 24k right enough.

Also v happy with Admiral cust svc during a claim for deer strike last summer, right before our holidays.
Sadly I wasn't prepared to pay 70% higher premiums for the privilege of renewing. Even when they tried to price match they were 30% adrift. Great pity.

Ran quote through as new customer, got £811.Lazydonkey wrote:Renewal just came through - £940

Called them and politely expressed disappointment.
Spent 20 mins going through policy and ended up paying £811. Well chuffed with that.
Get this though - it would be £90 more if i renewed in a fortnight once we are married. Eh?

Total chalk and cheese with my experience, did she have someone come and interview her for 3 hours writing down everything she said? Apparently that was standard affair for car thefts nowadays.Lazydonkey wrote: Oh and one of my pals at work had her 1 month old Focus ST stolen from her driveway....she was with admiral and they've been brilliant. 3 weeks after the theft they've agreed to give her full list price for the car and she says she couldn't be happier with the decision and the comms that came before hand.
