Looking to pick at your brains here guys.
Ive been thinking about supercharging my elise s2 111s. Ive had a few searches on the net and noticed most if not all go for the factory supercharger conversion. Any reasons to go for an aftermarket supercharger rather than the lotus one? is it the need for an intercooler with most aftermarket superchargers?
Also if i was to get an aftermarket supercharger, fabricate up some sort of mounting system, what parts/upgrades would i need to make? clutch? fly? forge anything?
Any advice on the whole situation? Ive only just began thinking about this and i dont know alot about supercharging etc. so any advice would be great.

111s normally refers to a Rover K-series engined car ... in which case there is no factory s/c kit.
If you mean the elise s (2006-onwards) with the 130BHP 1ZZ-FE engine then I don't think there is a factory kit for that either.
In short - tell us a little more about your car.

Sorry, my car is indeed the K series rover engined 111s.
I seen the hanger kit but was also wondering if there was any reason why i couldnt go for another supercharger/cooler setup? or if anyone else on here has done this.

This may be misguided...but I would be cautious about forced induction of any sort on a K series. The supposed fragility of the engine makes me wonder if the heat and stress from this approach would be counter productive?
If you'd like more power, there are I believe some other routes. Worth a conversation with Sabre Heads, amongst other things. But it may simply be that a factory Elise which already has the desired power output is your best bet. An SC is an interesting proposition.

Your question is not stupid!
I am afraid I don't know anything about this kit so cannot really offer anything constructive. Did you trawl SELOC to see if anyone on there has one and how they've got on with it?
I would hazard a guess that the prudent move would be to save your money until you can swap the 111S for a factory super-charged toyota variant. This has the advantage of preserving its value - most of the money you sink into the after market kits like this is lost unless you're willing to return the car to standard spec before you sell it.
For road use the s/c toyota variants don't need charge coolers - I don't see why a 200-ish BHP K-series s/c engine would need a charge cooler under the same conditions; for track use you might find that they go faster for longer with the charger cooler, though this is mitigated by our somewhat chilly climate

So ideally I'd be looking to get the Toyota engine?
It's just an idea I was playing with And I may pursue it. My k series is already been cammed and mapped upto 180 bhp atw. I will have a search on seloc to see if anyone has gone with a non manufacturer sc and take it from there.

I have a turbo on my k series , however its never going to be cheap if it's done right

There were a lot of problems with the TT stuff and the Hangar111 kit is in some sense derived from the TT kit, if only because they learned what not to do?
You cannot retro-fit the Toyota engine to the S2 111S, so if you're thinking toyota, you're thinking new car.

Thanks for your help guys. Currently just eyeing up my options now.
Im tempted to try soemthing a little different and go for an aftermarket superchager and rig up a cooling system to suit and see where it takes me!

It'll take you to heartache and bankruptcy
Save your pennies in a jar and when it's full (big jar) buy a 111R with the factory s/c retro-fitted. Honestly.
If you do decide to go down the s/c route on your 111S I have a set of brand new unused forged rods, forged pistons and lightened flywheel that you will perhaps need. Stu can probably do the machining on the pistons and/or head to lower the compression ratio (which I think will be a must for any serious s/c boost?).
Unless you plan on tracking it, I don't know that an i/c is really required - the 111R s/c models certainly get by without one.

I know you said no turbo but how about something different?
Mount the turbo above the gearbox, so bring the manifold round the side of the head, saves you worrying about the heat next to the tank and would probably work out cheaper than one of the kits. Just need someone to fabricate the exhaust system.
Maybe Ive never seen it before because there is no room?
Incidentally I like the power delivery from both supercharged and turbocharged, anyone starts going off about lag has not learned to drive a turbo. Its a different breed that's all. If they question throttle response then this is a compromise with any FI system.

Could be something to consider! I work for a large engineering company too so fabricating anything wouldnt be an issue.
Im also used to driving a turbo car after owning a few evos! Ahh yet more to consider!!
