So, if you've done other track days, no problem, but if this will be your first set of track days you need to do something else between now and then (I am sure a session at Knockhill will get you by - better still go on an actual LoT day somewhere if you can).

For people who are not LoT members, there is a way of getting free membership, but I am obviously not going to publish that here. Please PM me and I will explain it.

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. It hopefully goes without saying that Spa and Zolder deserve serious respect from anyone who has not driven them before (including myself in the Zolder-noob category). Paul is a legend organizing all this stuff year after year and what appears to motivate him is people having fun and causing no grief to the track day organizers - so, in the words of Sgt Esterhaus, let's be careful out there.
There will be plenty of chances to get track time in before then, Croft in April will be a great chance for anyone who has limited variation on tracks, ie, just Knockhill. Croft is just down the road, about 2 hrs from Edinburgh, and offers the high speed corners that Knockhill does not. A must for anyone wanting more track time i think.

22 paid and confirmed, 2 unconfirmed, so almost a full house.

Is this a jock only event or were other LOT members allowed in?

Tut, I think Paul promoted it here first via Andy, but it is in the shop, so others can book it too .... but if it hasn't been promoted they are unlikely to know about it.

I guess the jock underpants on the shop picture may also have put some off ;-)

Hethel will be more-or-less SE only. Spa/Zolder are much bigger circuits and I would guess 50-60+ cars there to be cost effective so there will be plenty more LoT members there besides SE contingent. As far as I can see the Spa date is not published on LoT, so not sure where the other cars are coming from.

Cheers,
Robin

its meant to be "Jock" only , some friends joining for Spa and Zolder. Only Hethel is SE exclusive though.

I spent last night playing the latest F1 game on the X-Box tearing round Spa.

If the game is anything to go by that is one fast scary circuit

Zolder is a nice track but a pain regarding noise limits.
Cars will have transponders to tell which cars pass the two measuring poles when noise exeeds the rediculously low 95 dB.
However, if more cars at (almost) the same time pass one of the measure points, measured level will obviously be higher than 95 dB but false, as it cannot be determined if one of the cars exceeds the noise limits nor which one would be the naughty one.

You get black flagged the first time and banned for the rest of the day the next time you're caught making too much noise.

Will skip Hethel as its full already and prolly book as seperate trackdays when they're in the shop with final prices. Looking forward to see the SE clan again. :cheers

I will need to get the exhaust on the 211 reworked then.
it was just over 105 stactic at Oulton last weekend, got black flagged twice for noise on track.
Bought and exhaust bung from the shop , which done the trick, reduced by 3db according to the Pete.
That wont be enough for a 95DB track though.

Anyone got Jims contact details????

95dB drive by is very different from 95dB static - for starters you're further away from the meter; sound level follows inverse square law and you are now 10m away instead of 0.5m away - i.e. 20 times further away = reduction of 20^2 = 400x the sound level. 400x reduction = 26dB give or take.

So 105 static at 0.5m would equate to 79db at 10m. (Edit: you can validate this using your smartphone sound level app ... get someone to hold constant throttle and walk away from the 0.5m to the 10m point, holding the phone at the same angle to the car ... you should see a drop of approx 26dB).

Unfortunately static test has very low throttle opening and focusses on exhaust noise (and actually mechanical engine noise is significant here too). On full chat your intake will make a lot more noise (plus s/c whine) and obviously there's a lot more gas going out the exhaust as well.

The drive by test at Oulton is 92dB ; the difference between 92dB and 95dB is a factor of 2 in sound level, so quite substantial. So if you passed the 92dB with the exhaust bung you ought to pass the 95dB also, but it could easily be marginal due to different distances from car to meter, reflections, noise from other cars, etc.

Forced induction cars are always going to have more problems with the drive by test, though, so it would be wise to consider not just exhaust bung but also some form of baffling on the air intake - not sure if it's practical for you to refit original air box but that would make a substantial difference over the straight-duct-with-cone filter.

Cheers,
Robin

:withstupid

If you're still stuck or concerned nearer the time Stu I have a spanky new standard 211 cat and back box in the garage that you could swap to for the trip (and ruin with Yaris fumes). ;)

Top effort gents - i think we'll end up with 30 or so by the time this shuts!

Stu, its probably your brakes that will exeed more than the exhaust from what I can remember!

From the track map above, hopefully he's not braking at the noise meters!
(I have the same brakes...)
