How does leasing work Iain, pay the deposit, monthly payments for the length of the contract, then hand it back and start again?

That's about it Tut
Don't go over the mileage allowance
Keep it clean, neat and tidy or you will incur restorative repair charges

Friend of mine has just ordered a Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake on a 9+23 lease for a scarcely believable £235+VAT per month which includes road tax. This is a car which retails for £50k
I really really like this car but have no reason to drive one, although I have spent the weekend trying to come up with some reasons.
Contract Hire & Leasing are also showing a 3dr manual M135i for £209+VAT on a 6+23 which must surely make this the performance bargain of the decade. 5dr auto's (my prefered spec) are quite a leap in price which makes me think they must have excess stock to shift. Sorely tempted !

Very tempted also....
Assume you have a business you can run it through?
The reason i ask is that i was getting quotes for running it through the business and my old man pointed it out very little benefit, especially on anything interesting, to running it through the business to save on the VAT. However upon speaking with a company who had quoted on a VW Golf GTD for me, it turns out that it wasn't a case of just adding the VAT on, it would be additional on the monthly payment + the VAT!
I'd probably also take the CLS Shooting brake, as i think it's a great looking estate!

No but I have 'access' to a business Dave, for lease purposes
My friend has done this for years and his advice is to use the business to get access to business lease rates but simply pay for the car using taxed personal income and don't show it on your balance sheet. All this does is create a big personal tax liability. You can then charge your business for business mileage, something like 40p per mile I can't remember the exact figure he uses. All perfectly legitimate and above board.

Yeh I think it's 40p a mile for the first 10k then 25p per mile. It's about time these rates were reviewed given they have been the same for as long as I can remember and fuel and running costs certainly have not.......
Re the shooting brake if you add the 9+23 payment and divide by 24 you get a more accurate monthly cost which is closer to £400 a month. Just under £5k a year. I doubt if they would only lose £10k in depreciation over 2 years though so for a £50k car that is still cheap. They must be losing out on that surely?
I also really like the Shooting Brake.
I have come across a couple of leasing companies who advertise a really low rate for the car but can't get stock or when you enquire the rate is actually completely different. Some of them are a nightmare to deal with.

Headline figures and all that! Only two seem to have the M135i at the very low price, and as you say the shooting brake has 9 payments worth of deposit slapped down, so not that cheap!

In relation to buying a £500 Polo maybe but if there is a cheaper way to own a new M135 then please direct me towards it because I'm getting itchy in the car swapping department
