argh

Post by anthonyyule » Mon Dec 23, 2013 8:21 pm

Chipped an alloy on the Exige this afternoon....

Never take the car to work but thought I would today as things would be quiet. Went in early to get a good space at the end away from everyone.... came out this avo, chatting to one of my colleagues, jumped in the car, drove off and just 'clipped' the edge of the kerb with the drivers rear.

Being black I've managed to paint over the chip (about a 10p length size). It looks ok, and I'll get Craig to fix it proper next time I'm down at MMC, but does anyone have any other advice as to how to make it look better in the interim? Colouring the chip is fine, but as the original paint has flaked off my paint job isn't as 'thick' - can I fill it with anything?

It's not the end go the world, just annoying for a 1000 mile car :( and it's entirely my fault for not concentrating

Feel your pain. I's very annoying. I had my focus RS 2 days and scraped 2 alloys on one street. Taught me to be very cautious but of course done it again a few months later after getting them repaired. One of those things with low profile tyres. As long as you are going to get it repaired properly I wouldn't worry about it now.

I know that feeling well, my front driver side wheel lasted just over one week before I kerbed it going into underground car park in Paris. I was sick at the time, but it hard to see now unless you really look for it.

Make sure you take you wheel centres off if you're going to take it on track, my wheel centres lasted two track days and Neil's only lasted one.( He was obviously trying harder than me)

I got a set of wheels done recently at The Wheel Specialist in Dyce. Could try them? I'm guessing that Murray's will only send it somewhere themselves in any case. (Prepares to be corrected!)

Lend me your car. I will kerb all the alloys, and ding the paint. Then I'll lend it to the Ape who will drive it through the gravel trap at 100mph on full opposite lock. Then you won't need to worry any longer :-) When it's time to sell, take it to Martin at Willowbrae and it'll look new again :-)

I've used these guys to do wheels before and happy with the results:

Of course none of this is local to you, but no doubt MMC can help with the logistics if the car is with them anyway.

Cheers,
Robin

Kerbing you say? Wait til the stone chips start...LOL.

Get out and drive it, young man. That's all that counts.

I don't think any of my wheels are kerbed, but then again I am very careful with them and have three sets so that they are always in perfect condition.

Seven o clock on the dot, all the kids and Jamie crowd into our bedroom, jump in the beds and start opening their stockings, then give the dogs squeaky toys

At least they made tea first.
