Turned the ignition on yesterday on the Honda CR-V to lower a window and left it on. Went out later to walk the dogs and the battery was flat. Hooked up the charger, and though I do not remember I must have gone back out a couple of hours later and started it up and left it running.
Midday today Verian asked me why the car engine was running, which it had been for twenty hours. Hopefully it has not affected the engine as you could well do that if you were caught in one of these overnight Winter Motorway standstills, but it did use half a tank of diesel.

Actually as nobody else has probably been stupid enough to do it, as we had just fuelled up, it could be useful to know that if you did run the engine for twenty hours to keep the heater running, you would still have half a tankful of fuel left in the average car.

Valuable research , but the reality is that most of us would find the car had been driven off never to be seen again as soon as we left it

You Sir, are a legend!
It won't have done the engine any harm providing that the rad fan and water pump are in good condition, just a very expensive battery charger/radio that nobody is listening to!

Well done Tut. Just think of how much fun you could have had with that £40 in the Elise...

Verian is my Carer but reckon I need a new one. She went to the Supermarket yesterday in her slippers, forgot to put her shoes on. With that and the car she is not earning her keep, and is now complaining about carrying the coal buckets in and stacking the logs.
