New (old) car NLC

Post by jj » Fri Apr 25, 2014 4:39 pm

Young philthy isn't the only one with a new 2 seater German whip. Just this one is slightly older.

Picked it up this morning after buying it from the US in January; so far so good. Its 17 years older than me :lol:

Loving it so far, its not mint but looks great from 20 feet, good from 10 and just old close up

Couple of advert pics;

It is a 1966 230SL - known as Pagoda because of the shape of the roof.

Spied it on ebay.com at an independent german car dealer in Virginia, they sell everything from 190SLs, these to brand new stuff. The guys there were absolutely spot on to deal with, as were the shipping company I used here.

Paid for it, the shipping company uplifted it from the dealer and did absolutely everything - transport to New York, customs, into container then over here mid march. They then uplifted it from port, did all the forms. I only had to pay 5% VAT and zero duty as it got brought in under the binding tariff for "works of art" :lol:

Then it got MOT'd, needed only £400 spent on it and here we are. Drove 80miles back from Milton Keynes and around central London today and it didn't miss a beat. About to leave to drive home in it in the rain so hopefully its a) still there and b)still works.

Lovely Car!
My Mother In Law had one for years.......alongside her broom! :D
Hope it's a dry state car as they do rot in unusual places

David Coulthard also has one that sits outside the Columbus Hotel in Monaco.

:cheers
