Gumball 3000

Post by pete » Fri May 09, 2014 5:07 pm

The Gumball is going to Edinburgh but they are flying into Prestwick on the 7th. A 767 for the drivers and 2-3 747 freighters for the cars.

Might be good to see!

They are landing in PK on teh 7th and all the cars need to be refueled as they are being flown with empty tanks. That alone will take a while.

It depends where they are parking as to what you'll see but there's a good view of the airport from the spotter's mound next to the tower. I'll find out where they are parking nearer the time.

When they drive away there should be viewing spots at the exit and along the road. As it is just 10 min away I will probably go to it. If you find out any more please post it. Thanks

So rumour is 2x 747 @1945 and 2245 local on the 7th with the cars.

Drivers arrive @ 0630L on the 8th.

Arrive Edinburgh between 10 and 12 so they will be leaving pretty sharpish on the 8th, but prior to leaving they are doing a run down the runway (probably). They may re-open the spotters gallery specially,,,

More info when I have it...

Amongst the stars is the only Scottish team - businessman Garreth Wood and his wife Nicci who was both Miss Scotland and Miss UK in 2003. In their customised Rolls Royce "The Velvet Phantom", they're aiming to raise £100,000 for the When You Wish Upon A Star charity so they can send 100 terminally-ill children and helpers to Lapland to meet Santa this winter.

This is Nicola before she became Nicci Wood. Beat you to it mate......... :D

What an adventure!!! Busted for speeding and escorted to local police station in Georgia. Best not divulge speed but you don't get a $1670 fine for forgetting to signal. #gumball3000

Firstly saw all the cars parked up next to the hangar and freight 747.
Then moved round to on front of terminal briefly then to the roundabout at airport exit to be closer to them as they accelerated up the dual carriageway. Got a few pics and phone video but sure there will be much better quality stuff than my quick snaps.
Good to see cars on the road hearing a few seconds of full acceleration, most common was ferrari 458 and Mercedes SLS quite a few ferrari f12 and ff, a couple of Mclaren's, Ventador but hardly any porsche.
Saw my 1st mclaren P1, Veyron, spyker and Weismann on the road, only saw the lead car from a distance, some kind of sports car (Group C type maybe Audi).
Was worth the hours drive and sun stayed out.
