road tax discs.
Re: road tax discs.
My Porsche was bought on the 3rd. The previous owner had just taxed it, and of course I had to tax it when I bought it, so DVLA made 2 months out of it...

Re: road tax discs.
They only "made" 1 month out of it - it was only double taxed for October, not triple taxed.Corranga wrote:My Porsche was bought on the 3rd. The previous owner had just taxed it, and of course I had to tax it when I bought it, so DVLA made 2 months out of it...

I was half way between 'made 1 month extra' and 'paid 2 times'

Mike, you are missing the point.Mikie711 wrote:But if you do that and copy the tax disc then what's the difference. Easy enough to clone a tax disc these days.a4drk wrote:Right, here's my view on it.
(Although I would never do this)
Find another car - same as yours- same colour etc - whether it's in another town miles away or on autotrader for sale
Clone the reg numbers
And stick them on your car.
You could drive your cloned car with no mot, insurance, road tax etc
And never get caught (providing the other car is up to date)
When you had your tax disc on display, this was a tell tale that it tied up with the reg number on the car.
I think the criminals in this country will take advantage of this
David
You don't need to show your tax disc anymore in the windscreen
Hence what I Said

Re: road tax discs.
Cars could be cloned under the old tax disc scheme as well as the new.
The only difference is that an observant bobby could spot your tax disc reggie didn't match the tax disc in your car.
Personally, i doubt that many cloned cars were identified this way (as most of the focus is on spotting untaxed/uninsured/no-mot cars is via ANPR).
The solution to car cloning is massive penalties for anyone caught driving a cloned car. Trouble is, those penalties are hard to enforce as I would imagine most car-cloners are "off grid".

Robin

Re: road tax discs.
Apologies if this has already been covered, my wife is trading in her car this weekend and still has tax remaining. What is the procedure for claiming back the remaining tax, when I look up Application from V14 I get this https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... e-tax-disc

Re: road tax discs.
Its automatically refunded when you sell the car:
Selling a vehicle
From 1 October, vehicle tax is not transferable so you won’t be able to include any remaining tax when you sell a vehicle. If you sell a vehicle after 1 October and you have notified DVLA, you will automatically get a refund for any full remaining months left on the vehicle tax. The refund will be sent to the keepers details on DVLA records so you need to make sure that these are correct.
Vehicle tax refunds
You will no longer need to make a separate application for a refund of vehicle tax. DVLA will automatically issue a refund when a notification is received from the person named on DVLA vehicle register that the:
vehicle has been sold or transferred
vehicle has been scrapped at an Authorised Treatment Facility
vehicle has been exported
vehicle has been removed from the road and the person on the vehicle register has made a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN)
person on the vehicle register has changed the tax class on the vehicle to an exempt duty tax class

Re: road tax discs.
I don't see how this saves the government any money as they still have to send out refund cheques to everyone which will cost more than a tax disc as there is also postageon top? It's just another way to shaft the motorist as they make a months tax on each car sale/transfer unless the sale is on the last day of the month.
Shafted yet again by the tories!

Re: road tax discs.
I taxed the Evora on-line yesterday (after 3 months SORN while I was laid up & not able to drive) & the process was really quick and straightforward. One simple transaction and your covered for the year, or for those that pay monthly a single on-line transaction covers the payments for as long as you have the car.

Gordon has just bought a Clio and taxed it as the new owner on Saturday. He's had no documents through yet so he went to the post office - it seemed they just typed in the Reg number and the computer said 'yes'. Changed days
