N3 TUT
Re: N3 TUT
Not forgotten Lowell, but with Clarkey now taking over the car, I would have to give him first choice.
However there are no track day covers left on the car this year, so will have to check with him whether he will take it on track.

Re: N3 TUT
So, managed to put some miles on the car today
What a machine! Roof off all day, Claire and I went for lunch at my mums as she has not been too well, then went to falls
Of feuch for afternoon tea.
Absolutly loving the car and all the great things about having an elise in this weather.
Got the car MOT'd yesterday too - which wasn't too much bother.

Re: N3 TUT
Good to see that you are enjoying her Clark. Was there no problem with the MIL light?
Forget to tell you, although Craig changed the oil filter as it had a seep around the seal he did not change the oil which is due. You will have noticed the rattle from the rear floating brake disks, but I don't know if there is anything to do about it.

Re: N3 TUT
Aye - I had planned on doing an oil service for good measure this week anyway.
Got the MIL light off, but it's back on again, but I'll look into it further.
My job for this week is to get it all cleaned up and properly checked over, sort out the lights, fix the arch liners and I'll pop up and collect those wheels too.
Going to paint the front splitter black again too to tidy it up.
I took out the seat spacers - found the original bolts in the boot, so just put the long bolts and the spacers back in the boot too.

Re: N3 TUT
Wondered where they had come from. OBD2 reader pointed to the MAP sensor but changing it made no difference.

I still have that brand new k20 honda throttle body and all sensors if you need to try and figure it out...

Re: N3 TUT
I'm going to plug it into the auto logic, get some live readings and take it from there,
Cheers for the offer - will be in touch.
It seems to be burning a lot of fuel/running quite rich too, so it will likely be something simple.

Re: N3 TUT
Fuel consumption is not as good as I expected compared to old N3. On a motorway cruise at 75, ie down to KH, I thought that I would get over 30. I keep a check and the last four were 24, 23, 24, 25mpg, so as the tank will take 8gals that only gives a range to empty of 185 miles. That consumption was also solo so no road runs or track days and 90% in 6th gear.
I do not remember it running so rich when I picked her up from Keith and drove home, and the consumption was certainly better then. On SPAZZ it was very noticeably running rich and blackening the rear clam, but I am wondering if running on 99RON would make a difference. I use it on track when I can get it, but only use 95 on the road, whereas I think Keith used 99 all the time, so that is what it would have been mapped on. Wish that I had kept the K-Pro from old N3, but when I sold it to Luca I had fitted the original ECU as I thought the car was going to auction, so I sent it down as he was going to rebuild the car.
This ECU can only be mapped by a specialist and not sure that there is anybody local who can map the Honda ECU.

Re: N3 TUT
Doesn't sound like a map issue if it is running rich on motorway cruises too. It's normally open loop on cruising which means getting feedback from the lambda sensor to keep it at 14:1 ish just like idle. Sounds like a MAP/lambda sensor or wiring issue. But that's just an amateur guess.
Running lower octane fuel could make it run rich if it's detecting knock and safeguarding the engine by dumping in fuel, again wouldn't have thought it would do this at cruise. Not sure what ECU you have so don't know the knock sensor capabilities. Some don't have any.

Re: N3 TUT
Matty at Wallace performance mapped mine, I have hondata and a 9psi pulley, Siemens 630cc injectors, 70mm TB, chargecooler etc, don't know how that compares to your set up?
You can certainly use that map as a baseline if you want?

Re: N3 TUT
I don't think it's a map problem,
I'm leaning towards a lambda sensor from running it on normal petrol, I putva tank of v power through it yesterday and will do the same next weekend, then change the lambda.
My M3 used to hate normal fuel, threw sensor fault codes all the time and run too rich, that's why I'm thinking it's not a map problem, just fussy about the petrol it's using.
My friend who races an Integra is a bit of a honda wizard - took him out for a spin yesterday and he is of the same sort of thoughts as me, so as I said, I'm sure it's something simple and I'll get it sorted.
I even have plans to polish it this week (purely to bring the paint back and protect it)....... (Sorry tut, if you see that I'm polishing it your will revoke my rights to use it!)

Re: N3 TUT
As I mentioned above the reason using poorer fuel (lower octane) effects it is because it causes knock (as the timing is too advanced for the poorer fuel), the ECU detects knock and pours in fuel and retards timing to reduce knock and keep it safe, shouldn't be knocking on cruise though. If it is constantly pouring in too much fuel then this could foul the lambda and hence effect the cruise and idle fuelling. The Lambda isn't used on WOT runs as it drops into closed loop and follows the map.ClarkyBoy wrote:I don't think it's a map problem,

I'm not sure on that ECU (and I don't know what one it is?) how long it keeps safe fuelling after knocks are detected etc. What ECU is it?
It'll be interesting to know what the issue is.
Re: N3 TUT
yes it will have been run on 4 star for the last year or so.BigD wrote:As I mentioned above the reason using poorer fuel (lower octane) effects it is because it causes knock (as the timing is too advanced for the poorer fuel), the ECU detects knock and pours in fuel and retards timing to reduce knock and keep it safe, shouldn't be knocking on cruise though.
