Top Gear is finished.

The BBC will attempt to flog a dead horse with 3 new presenters (May and Hammond will follow Clarkson), it will be liked a handful of morons, mainly the ones moaning incessantly about the now deceased format, however the ratings will bomb and 9million viewers will become 250k within weeks.

Top Gear will be cancelled forever after the next series.

Sky, Netflix, Discovery Channel will already be on the phone to Clarkson, May, Hammond and Andy Wilman with chequebook in hand.

A new programme featuring 3 blokes dicking about with cars will return to one of the above channels in about a years time with record viewing figures.

A handful of wretched cocktards will find something in it to moan about.

I realise I'm probably in a minority on this, but I have long thought Clarkson is an arse and that TG is completely unwatchable drivel so good riddance from me :) . Most large organisations would dismiss any employee who physically assaulted a colleague, so accusations of political correctness at the BBC from some quarters are really unjustified - they had no choice.

I'd like to see a car show aimed at enthusiasts. Obviously a far smaller market than TG, but a market that currently seems poorly served. I am thinking along the lines of EVO mag on telly - then again, as has been pointed out on here before, maybe this is better done via video on the internet.

I am sure amongst that lot there is someone restoring an Austin Allegro to keep you amused.

There was nothing wrong with Top Gear, all the suggestions about replacing presenter X with Chris Harris/Evans/DiversityBrownLesbian are laughable. No one will watch Top Gear with the 3 new guys, they'll give it a go and quickly realise that maybe old Jezza, Hammond May weren't that past it afterall.

Yes. Top Gear was the only programme on TV I genuinely liked and looked forward to watching. I regularly read people wanting to change it because it wasn't exactly what they wanted it to be. Which would have been a crap programme no one watched. I hope they are happy when it's replaced by RealityMulticulturismVegetarianLive featuring DiversityBrownLesbian (who used to be in Top Gear, you know).

I don't mind watching the odd in depth car review from Evo or Harris but a hour long show as dry as that would bore the sh!t out of everyone but the most die hard anorak. OK TG targeted the top end of the market but it was aspirational, and the formula worked. Yes every now and then they dropped a clanger but generally there were good features in it. The Veron race being, for me, one of the more memorable.

I do hope someone picks it up, and before you slate Clarkson, what he did was wrong no doubt about it, it was he who reported the incident and set in motion his own demise.

Having seen the Richard May Youtube clip posted earlier in this thread, it's all looking very familiar; remember back to when Andy Gray was kicked out of Skt Sports, he and Richard Keys have gone on to work together again after Keys stood down when Gray was sacked...... The exact same will happen here and Top Gear will step up a gear just as Sky Sports did..... Guy Martin as the Gary Neville equivalent is a great shout.... A genuinly entertaining guy with no fear and instantly likable.
Could be the shot in the arm Top Gear needed, tbh, I stopped watching a few years ago.

I don't really care all that much. I used to find Clarksons oafishness funny but it got a bit repetitive/predictable so stopped watching (many other things to do; were I less busy I might have watched anyway).

I found the Argentinian episode (which I did happen to see some of) revealed an unattractive side to his character. First there was no need to antagonise the "argies" in the first place; secondly I thought it was sh*t that the stars cowered in a hotel while they left the convoy to take the flak.

Cheers,
Robin

Monkey Harris has written a blog that covers the TG saga - which actually gives a bit of interesting perspective.

So let someone else take the heat in his place? Very brave.

Tend to agree with Robin. Clarkson & Hammond became caricatures of themselves a long time ago, TG for me was no longer fresh nor funny and I stopped caring. Caught some of this series but never bothered with the last couple, not from any decision not to watch but as I ceased to be bothered.

Kenny, if you're so upset there's always the endless repeats on Dave, you can barely tell the difference between episodes after a while anyway. TBH, the Dave repeats may be part of the problem of antipathy towards TG from former fans.

It's not about brave, if they had 'made an appearance' the whole thing would have escalated and they would all have been subjected to an increased level of violence.

Some of the comments are decent too, especially the family / travel angles.
I've always been in the Top Gear is a bit crap / I'd prefer something more geeky camp, but I've always wanted that in addition to the current structure - almost a TG-Geek spin off show on BBC4 or Red Button or something...
There are always things that can be better and I genuinely feel like some episodes have been too drawn out recently.
BUT Top Gear makes me want to watch things like Fifth Gear for some balance.

TG is easily the best car related show on TV, and I think that's why we are so critical of it.
I hope that all isn't lost, and the beep can pull a rabbit and find a good enough balance of budget to eventual viewers so that in future they can continue to make it.

At the same time, I hope that Harris is wrong, and TG has enough pull to work in an commercially funded environment.
