Re: Ground Source Heat Pump (NLC)
Have you gone ahead with a GSHP install Mike? We're currently thinking about a move to a bigger more draughty place, and with the RHI payments GSHP looks like a no brainer unless I'm missing something.

Neil,
yep going ahead. Just about to pull the trigger. RHI has just gone up to 19.1p per KW/h so will pay for itself over the coarse plus some. Best savings plan about at the moment.

Re: Ground Source Heat Pump (NLC)
Still central Aberdeen - the one we've seen is actually closer to the curry house. Not masses of land so we'd have to go for bore holes.
Will have to pop out for a chat about yours Mike if we get this place. At 19.1p/kwh it's almost worth buying the place just for the RHI

Re: Ground Source Heat Pump (NLC)
When i looked into a GSHP for mine they suggested 2 100m bores as a cost of £60k which promptly stopped things. Let me know how you get on.
If you're not living on the edge you're wasting too much space!
Re: Ground Source Heat Pump (NLC)
I discussed this with an Aberdeen company a few years ago, IIRC a 300ft borehole was around £6k. You had the additional cost of the heat exchange pump etc, which I can't remember. One issue that came up was the distance between boreholes, if I needed 2 boreholes they had to be far enough apart to avoid stealing each other's heat - this was an issue as I wanted both on the driveway.
Re: Ground Source Heat Pump (NLC)
At £6k a borehole it would work, at £30k
I think I'd be looking at a new gas boiler. Will get some quotes if we get the place.

Re: Ground Source Heat Pump (NLC)
Ours is going to be about 24K fully installed with 2 x 400m ground loops. Supplied, fitted and commissioned.

Re: Ground Source Heat Pump (NLC)
Just an update on this. Work will start on ours on the 28th of August. Ground works to dig in the 2 x 400m loops, ground collector and feed an return lines for the pump. Estimated to take 2 weeks to complete. After that comes the heat pump and buffer chamber then commissioning. Should see it all up and running by the 3rd week in September.
Iain and his staff at BIR have been fantastic throughout, always on hand if I have had any questions. can't recommend them enough

Re: Ground Source Heat Pump (NLC)
Neil, don't forget you get the RHI for GSHP which, depending on your house heat loss would certainly pay for most if not all of the install. In our case it covers the install and a few years of our bills.neil wrote:At £6k a borehole it would work, at £30kI think I'd be looking at a new gas boiler. Will get some quotes if we get the place.
Another update as work has been underway for a week now. Kevin from BIR has been here digging in the 2 x 400m loops round the field. Installing the collector and running the pipes back to the garage where the heat pump will be installed.

4 trenches round the edge of the field.

Last bits to be filled in.
