Geometry time?

Post by Rich H » Fri Nov 11, 2005 8:12 pm

Evening all,

Decided to spunk some more cash on Liz, the current thinking being a geo. As far as I know it's never been done. Is this worth the cash? (S1 39000 miles, 97R) I'm going to swing by Falkland Performance to see if they can do it and get a quote, anywhere else I should visit?

The other options were:

S2 suspension but I doubt I'll really benefit from it until I get some track instruction! :oops: in my defence I am off to KH tomorrow :P (And it's a bit too expensive!) to try and blag some pax trips...

Or ball joints and TREs but having finally purchaced a jack there is no play in any of the wheels when levered and I have no garage facilities for long term type work (Just a gravel car park!)

Any other suggestions?

Cheers

Brunty is doing the trackrod ends. I dont know how much it will cost, from memory the parts are about 12quid each and it will take him an hour so thats about 50squid incl parts. Think tracking will be about 40, full geo about 100? Im guessing though. Just want the car setup right, it feels funny on the old tyres etc.

I think that Gareth paid either £120 or £150 for Geo at Falkland....

£120 but I had nitrons so they set up my ride height, damping and camber.
Well worth doing. IMO needs dones every 6 months.

Before the new season starts I will be getting mine done.

Falkland were excellent. Only downside was I was coming from Aberdeen so had to wait around. The nearby town aint exactly Bond Street.... :P
I got some dodgy stares....because:

A) I wasn't wearing Burberry
B) I didn't have ear piercing or any other Argos jewellery
C) Wasn't under 16 with two kids :roll:

Well I'm booked into Falkland on Tuesday morning. They are going to use their settings I assume that they know what they are up to! They have quoted about £100, 3hrs approx labour.

Cheers again!

Well Geo's done. God knows what they did but it's good! I mean I'm not exactly a superb driver but the difference is amazing! :D

I did ask what settings they used but it's secret, all they would say is that they the camber settings were a bit out and its "better than anything off the forums"...? :shock:

Anyway I don't mind what they did cos it corners like never before, much more solid on the road and bags of grip around the twistys, going up Glenshee this weekend I reckons! :D

Went in this morning picked up this afternoon.

So it's :thumbsup to Falklands!

Total cost was £120 (inc vat) for 3 hrs labour.

Don't want to piss on any fires, but I'd be wary of anyone who wasn't prepared to tell you what settings they've put on the car... There's not much of a black art to it and there's nowt that hasn't been tried in public.

If it's a really pointy, grippy setup, you could well have issues with tyre wear on the inside of the fronts. Bit of a trade-off between front end grip and tyre wear really.

Keep an eye on the inside shoulders of the front tyres - they can be completely bald with good tread remaining on the outsides, if it's an aggressive setup.

However, if your front camber was too +ive, then resetting it to the factory settings would make it feel fantastically grippy - so I'm probably just being paranoid :lol:

I'd virtually guarantee that it's the settings I gave them...

which are from the forums...

'My' settings have -1deg front camber which will make it pointy and would be a bit aggressive for pure road use, wear issue as Shug says above.

I use these setting with Advan neovas lts, 110/120 s2 kit and totally love it. Car is really sharp and grippy. Takes a bit of time to get heat into the tyres though.

110/120 ride height Full tank of fuel

Front toe= 0.02deg out
camber= 1.5 deg neg

Rear toe= 0.3 deg in
camber= 3 deg neg

Cold tyre pressures

Front= 21
Rear= 23

OK thanks guys, :(
I was going to watch 'em anyway as I assume it will take a little while for the tyres to re-scrub into the new settings.

If they look like that are going too far that way I'll swop 'em left/right (Toyo's see) or just whine like a barsteward then buy some new 'uns.

I'd just better ask Santa for some new tyres then...! :D

Dear Santa,

For Christmas I would like.....
