My girlfriend's got me a D50 for my birthday in a couple of weeks. I have been looking at buying either that or a 350D for some time, but as has been said, after handling the two it had to be the Nikon.
I accept what's been said about Nikon's (compared to Cannon's) and kit lenses in general, but it's my first 'proper' camera, so cshould provide a good place to start.

the 24-105 is a fine lens and couple it with the 10-22 EFs and 100-400 IS L you have 10-400mm covered and a dent in your pocker for 2k lol
depends what you want to shoot will depend on what lens you buy.

I have EFs 10-22, tamron 17-50 f2.8, EF 100-400 L and sigma 30mm f1.4. would like sigma 50-100, and a couple or primes 85mm f1.8 & 135 F2 L to round off with

Just to clarify guys, I'm not suggesting you spend a silly amount of money on your lenses, I do but then I have to!
Without even mentioning all of my Hasselblad gear I have at least £4k of just Nikon glass in my bag: 10.5mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, 17-55 2.8, 70-200 2.8 and 18-200 VR. I need 'pro' glass with fast apertures, it's how I make my living.
Nikon and Canon 'kit' lenses can usually always be bettered by the equivalent Sigma lenses for not much more. The Sigma 18-125 is a great little lens for only £175 giving roughly the equivalent of 28mm-185mm in 35mm film camera terms (depending on the 'crop factor' of the DSLR used)

If you are after another Hasselbald lens for nothing then I could point you in the general direction of oneDavid Bryce wrote: Without even mentioning all of my Hasselblad gear
The last time I saw it was as it parted company from a Hasslebald body when my mate and I were photographing the Soviet Aircraft Carrier, Kiev, n sea trails off the West Coast of Scotland 30 years ago. He somehow mixed up the shutter button and the lens release button
Very tempted to get a DSLR but resisting well
Glad digital photography took off and I think its great that you can get prints as cheap as 5p over the counter in local supermarkets.
