Camera (NLC)

Post by skellyjohn » Sat Oct 28, 2006 2:03 pm

I'm looking for a digital camera for holiday and forth coming baby pics. Nothing too advanced and demanding. Just something I can aim and shoot.

Spending around £150.

Any suggestions?

I bought one for my girlfriend a few weeks ago, eventually got her one of these - http://www.fujifilm.co.uk/digital/cameras/z1/

Got it from http://www.cameras2u.com for under £130, and its great for the money. I am sure the camera club will be along shortly to tell you its pish, but it gets my vote.

No idea what would be a good camera but the bible of reviews can be found here http://www.dpreview.com/ .

http://www.cameras2u.com also gets a :thumbsup from me although I believe Jessops do some kind of price matching thing.

Yeah check out dpreview as suggested, and any Canon Ixus point and shoot will keep you happy. I had the Canon Ixus 40 and it was an excellent camera - 2 years on nearly and had i not sat on the screen pissed one night it would still be doing me well!!!

Cheers,

Dave

Casio Exlim range of cameras get my vote. Small, the size of a credit card and as thick as your little finger, and a large bright screen. When looking at the cheeper end of the camera market look as the shutter lag times. The time it take from when you press the button until it actually takes the photo. Very important especially when taking baby photos/cars on track cos both move very quickly. http://www.steves-digicams.com is also a good site for reviews.

Louise has just got a new camera. It's a SLR wannabe, but is actually quite good. Needs more memory than standard. It has 10x optical zoom, going up to 15x digital zoom. It is a Fujifilm S5600, and cost £150. There are some deals on the go for them, as it would appear to be nearing the end of it's production run.
