Maybe I'm just naive, but I didn't think the Dastek guys seemed like the kind of guys to deliberately fudge things just to keep the punters happy.

Robin, I was using Vpower, but I think Ed was too.

My max at the wheels was 165.9bhp @ 7,921rpm, compared to the 197.6bhp @ 8,260rpm at the engine. My max torque was 134.2lbf.ft @ 7,387rpm.

The Dastek guys were saying the difference can be due to lots of factors . . . engines won't be identical, run in period, age of engine, etc, etc.

Even if they do fudge the figures, the fudge would be the same for everyone, which would mean my car is still more powerful than Ed's. :D

Definitely! But not until I've had some training in the form of a Walshy day. I may have the power, but I need to learn how to control the power first! :D Probably next year after the winter. :thumbsup

Sure this 160 was a local car that used to be in our area. They had to get rid of it to buy a house.

Hi Guys,

1st post so please be gentle

Firstly thanks for everyone who turned up, it was a good day (probably more so for yourself's getting a laugh at my expense getting in/out of your cars  )

I would just like to point out that we report what we see, nothing more nothing less, some people are happy with the numbers, others are peeved with them. When you go down the path of fudging figures, there is no return & it always bites you on the bum (I know as we supply to 90% of all rolling road operators in the UK & know the reputation some have) The reason a lot of standard cars don't make std figures on dyno's is usually because of inadequate cooling & ventilation (we run 50hp worth of fans in our cell, where as many companies use fans of less than 5hp!)

Anyway, I've written a small bit on dyno's before, but can't be arsed linking it all again so I'll refer you tothis scooby thread for further reading on wheel power versus our preferred & more valuable flywheel power.

Hope this answers your queries, I'll try & get back as & when I can to answer anything that crops up.

Cheers,

Gerry

Gerry, thanks again for Saturday. I was really impressed at the setup and the knowledge of yourself and the other guys! :thumbsup

I was the sad geek asking about how it all worked, so I'll definitely be reading that stuff on the SIDC forum when I get the chance.

I'll definitely be back to get another reading once I've completed a couple of mods to the car! :D

Cheers,
D

You might find that on another day you get completely different results.
There was an article in EVO a while back comparing different brands/octane ratings of petrol and there was quite a difference between them all. Their conclusion was along the lines of it being pot luck whether you get a good batch or not.

Also, the ambient temperature will maybe make a difference to how much power it shows.

Unless you do a pre-mod and post-mod run on the same day it probably wno't show (unless it's huge differences, which is unlikely with an exhaust and filter).

When he wasnt gibbering pish about how hungover he was Corbie explained a little about how it works (he works there now)

His car, with no change in mods has seen differences of 15 bhp. Temperature and barometric pressure seem to make a huge difference along with tyre pressure, fuel, oil temp etc.
