Sanjoy,

Looks really lovely. You are going to have years of fun ahead :)

Once all the vaccination are done then feel free to give us a shout for some local Spaniel walks with our 2 cockers :)

Sanjoy,

:D

We are a couple of miles west of Balerno so possibly pretty local but we are often in Edinburgh.

If you have not had a "dogged" before then lots of advice here )

Great idea. Give us a shout too!

Let us know if you need any pointers or tips Sanjoy. (Another working cocker owner here).

P.S. first tip... probably best not to refer to dog ownership as "dogging" too often. You wouldn't want the use of the expression to become habit and, erm, slip out at an inappropriate occasion.

Sanjoy,

For your puppy classes I would recommend "Karens Dogs".

We used her for Skye and she was very good and does classes in Edinburgh. She used to walk our 2 before she went into the training/behaviour side.

Dom's Zoe is definitely a model dog and proof you get out what you put in.

Couple of bits of initial advice:
1) Consistency is key
2) For toilet training, as soon as you think its time to take them out, do so. Many time we thought, I will just put the kettle on 1st and you turn around with them weeing.

If we are talking about trainers, Ian at http://www.eshielsgundogs.com is very good.

We took both our Labs to him - not because we ever planned to do gun dog work - just to get basic steadiness/ control. Half of the training is of course training the owners, and ensuring other family members dont undo your good work. Gun dogs won't fart unless they request and receive permission....

About 7 yrs since we needed his services, but at the time we joined a couple of group days which were very good value, and had a couple of 1:1 sessions also. Fantastic knowledge with training based around the carrot rather than the stick....

Agreed. My old pal Harvey is now about 80-90% deaf, but knows now to look at me and understands hand motions for instruction. Works a treat :thumbsup

Like Sanjoy I went for Cocker earlier this year, picked Minnie up back in April. Both my other half & I grew up with dogs and it so happened that this year seemed like the right time. It's been fantastic rewarding 8 months and Minnie has turned into a cracking wee bitch. This thread was great reading back this time last year when I was getting ready to take the plunge

She looks absolutely georgous.

Cocker meet up would be good. May be a bit of a blast trying to tell which is which when I add 2 black cockers to the mix.
