E63 AMGs
Re: E63 AMGs
What shape, 211 or 212? NA or The Biturbo?
I loved my 211 55kompressor estate and as long as you can stomach visiting petrol stations A LOT then they’re great. I sold it because it was too fast really, and I don’t think there’s much reasoning in a family car being that fast. It’s pointless. Fun, but became pointless. If it’s just you driving it then crack on

Re: E63 AMGs
Not really sure on the model yet. It will be the spec that sells it to me. Wanting a 7 seater with the massage seats for my ageing back.
It’s not the main family wagon but would replace my work shed. Being 2 days per week at home a V8 makes sense and is cost net neutral according to my man maths.
Looked at other options 6 series etc but bikes and dogs may feature so we could end up a dual wagon family.
I boost up north white a bit too with a full load in the family W212 so know I’ll fill it.

Re: E63 AMGs
If you want a 7 seater it’ll need to be a w211 as the 212 didn’t get that option (this is from memory but I’m pretty sure that’s right).
211 is still a modern and extremely fast car but you might find the interior a bit retro compared to your 212? I noticed a jump forward when we went 211 to slower but newer 218 (similar dash to your estate).
This looks nice, rare colour. The noise !

Re: E63 AMGs
Johncam's W212 is a cracking car. What a noise! Plenty of performance too.
If I were looking at one, I would think a good quality lpg conversion would make a lot of sense.

Re: E63 AMGs
Hi
I have a 2015 E63 biturbo saloon with massage seats....................
I bought it this time last year, have done 11,000 miles and it is my daily driver. It is an awesome machine that blends hooligan and luxury perfectly. Every drive is an occasion and the noise is something else. Fuel consumption is an indicated average of 22mpg.
Happy hunting,
Ian

Re: E63 AMGs
What’s the miles per tyre like on the rears? Or maybe tyres per mile?
I can imagine it would be difficult not to just drift round every roundabout in sight.

Re: E63 AMGs
I drive it sensibly i.e. don't smoke the tyres and I am down to about 4mm after 9,000 miles. I think that is pretty good.
Re: E63 AMGs
Long time since I've been on here but Dom made me aware of the thread.
After watching a Doug Demuro YouTube video where he bought a W212 E63 Wagon as his daily driver last year, I started looking and in September I bought an Iridium Silver W212 E63 Wagon. Despite being a 2010 car, its only just done 45k miles. I bought it from the Merc main dealer in Stourbridge so it has a two year Tier 1 Merc / AMG warranty and I opted for the three year Merc service plan. It has the M156 6.2 litre V8 which puts out 518hp, later W212's have the 5.5 litre Bi-Turbo V8 with the same output but look pretty much identical apart from the wing badges I believe. Its my daily driver (15-20k miles p.a.) and replaced a 3.0 litre V6 TT Tdi Jaguar XJ which was pretty good on fuel... my first 100 miles in the Merc was 12.4 MPG
Something drastic had to be done and if I'm honest I'd done my research before I bought it so it was quickly booked into Angus Autogas in Arbroath who specialise in high performance Prins LPG conversions. Two weeks later it was back and I've been enjoying 51.7p per litre motoring ever since!!
Never thought I'd own a hybrid
I let Dom drive it. After a wee while, being a gent he offered to pay for all the petrol he thought he'd used up. At that point I told him it was running on the gas which he refused to believe until I showed him the fuel gauge hidden in the centre console. We had hooned about for 2 hours and only used £20 worth of gas! It really is a well hidden conversion and it drives identically whether you run it on gas or unleaded. My man maths say savings at the pump should pay for the conversion in the first year
So, what's it like to own? Its quite frankly ridiculous. No car that size should be able to go, corner or stop like that and the noise, the noise is just glorious really.
Performance wise, this video pretty much sums it up if you ignore the first run where he left it in comfort mode

We wanted a family car that could take three bikes on holiday, its comfortable, well built and is surprisingly docile if you keep the transmission out the AMG modes. My wife and daughter just love it, the latter particularly because it has the Harman / Kardon Surround Sound system with the rear screens.
If someone was to say to you that you could only ever have one car then an E63 wagon would need to be given serious consideration.
Just do it I say... cars with glorious big engines like that will never be made again so its your duty to own one before its too late.
Happy to let you have a nosy round mine - I'm in Edinburgh fairly regularly.
Cheers,
John
P.S. JJ is spot on about the 7 seat option. Only available on the W211 which is looking a bit elderly these days in my humble opinion

Great info, thank you. Have you any pics of the gas tank and the filler?johncam wrote:Long time since I've been on here but Dom made me aware of the thread.

Re: E63 AMGs

Engine Bay - If you look carefully, all you can see is the Prins ECU which is in the top LHS

Tank. - Under the rear floor in the tailgate. Uses the space where the spare wheel was. 80 litre tank with 60 litre fill capacity

Prins Fuel Gauge - hidden altogether when the little door is closed

LPG Filler - alongside the petrol filler and under the filler door avoiding one of those horrible fillers cut into the rear bumper
