Dreaded Clutch Problem (Sport350)
Dreaded Clutch Problem (Sport350)
So the 350 has the symptoms of a banjaxed clutch, its not releasing properly and making gear change difficult. Anyways I'm sure you all know the technical details, Ive put this up here to keep you updated on getting it resolved.
The supplying dealer has confirmed there is a problem however has asked me to underwrite the cost of the job (3-4K) should the issue turn out to be wear related. Obviously I've not accepted this and have formally laid out my intentions to them with respect to the process I'll follow. I.e. allow them reasonable time to rectify, and ultimately culminate in rejection should the issue not get resolved, I genuinely would rather this not happen as I love the car.
Anyways I'll keep you all updated on how this progresses, hopefully to a quick and happy ending.

How much miles has the car done?

Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
Sorry to hear, best of luck getting it sorted.
Surprised the cost is so high as unlike the Evora its not an engine out job to change. - main dealer pricing I spose....

Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
Just ticked over 11k on way down to dealer, got it at 10.4k so I’ve done bugger all on it. Car’s 2 years old, I reckon my case is pretty strong so hopefully they see sense and just fix it hassle free.

Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
Good luck and hopefully you can get it repaired under the warranty.
Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
Interested to hear how it goes. Is that a common issue on the v6 ?
Wear after 11k on a clutch
All the best with getting it fixed.

Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
It’s a well known fault, not wear related clutch is strong and no sign of slipping just won’t release fully immediately so if you depress clutch and engage 1st the car thumps into gear and rolls forward slightly. If you wait with the clutch in fully then it’s fine but it’s too long when actually changing gear. It’s like there is a very slow delay valve on depressing the clutch.

Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
Are Evora/Exige clutches really that bad? Toyota? 11000 miles ffs. Puts me off saving up for one.
My Elan had 175,000 on original Isuzu clutch.

Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
I don’t think so Scott as with any car with a load of power and torque with lots of grip it’s easy to abuse them I’ve never done a clutch in in my life. This is definately a flaw rather than abuse.

Dreaded Clutch Problem
The Evora "needs a clutch" after 30-40k warcry is allegedly due to them overheating through heatsoak. Crap design IMHO and glad I didn't have to change one.
Ross, very sorry to hear of the hassle. This will be a stern test of our other "local" dealer.

Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
Well Ross, hopefully the warranty and dealer will be kind to you. Good luck .
Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
Thanks Ross, hope we hear some good news about a fix soon.
Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
There was a problem with early Evoras wihich was down to a manufacturing issue oncars, mostly NA, with the sports ratios was there not. Lotus had to decrate then open tgese gearboxes to put the short rations in and some were refitted to cars with a clutch alignment issue that eventually caused the clutch to fail.
There are more Evoras out there on original clutches than not for sure. The warcry udually goes up when someone mentions they are buying an Evora with plus 30k miles and the harbingers of doom toll the bells to forwarn of a £3-4k impending bill if it has not had the clutch already done. Craig has done a few and he was offering a fixed price job much less than the figure usually quoted.
I had no issue with the clutch in my 2010 NA at almost 30k miles and 3.5 years of trouble free ownership despite previous owner using it for trials too. Current owner reports no clutch issues too.

Re: Dreaded Clutch Problem
Mine was grand when I let it go at 30k+ miles too. Albeit long box so never opened.
