Any late model S2 owners?

Post by finlay » Wed Oct 17, 2018 10:30 am

I have had a 2008 S2 260 for three years now and love it. I am kind of toying with maybe changing for a later model preferably special edition like an RGB or Sprint. Have driven an S3 but prefer the S2 especially as I have an M4 as a daily so the rawer nature of the S2 appeals more.

Wondered if there were any late model S2 owners on here and what your ownership experience has been like etc?

I'm never sure about the S2/S3 thing. S3 seems just to have been the headlights changing, with the usual annual or semi annual round of minor upgrades - doesn't really represent a model change to me...

The S2 underwent constant evolution - to the point that I bet the difference between a "late" S2 and an S3 is basically the headlights and little else. S2 interior had changed long before that, engines had changed, etc. Comparing a 2002 S2 with a Rover engine, to a 2006 just post drive by wire 111R, to the last "S2" with the 1.6SC Yota - the differences are much more marked than the change of nose.

Might be better to define the sort of years you're looking at? My personal preference of the S2s is the one I had (well, Elaine did) Just post drive by wire upgrade, older interior and dash cluster, then nail on a supercharger. The right combo of refined but raw for me. Never liked the interior redesign or the later engine. YMMV.

One of the bigger changes was going from Toyota 2ZZ to the other Toyota.
Both 1.8 supercharged, change happened around 2010 (due to emissions) but not aligned to the 2/2.5/3 model changes.
So there is S2.5 (or is it S3) with the old engine, higher reving and all that.

Oops my comments and Shugs above applicable to Elise rather than Exige.
Can’t inagine much difference from a 2008 until whenever S2 stopped but will leave owners to comment.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to achieve, Finlay?

Tell us a bit more :-)

I dont think much changed, if anything between the latter post 2008 T shaped wing S2 Exige with the modern interior and the latter ones with the GT3 wing and modified front clam. I believe, with the exception on the specials that mechanically they are the same.

The specials often had adjustable dampers and accusump (more trouble than it was worth apparently) but that was it, and all retrofittable. I think that was it bar more agrresive Geo on the cup cars.

I settled on a updated interior late 2008 model performance sport touring which in my opinion was the sweet spot. Plus I preferred the T wing. I almost bought Renmure’s 72 but hummed and hawed as wasn’t sold on the wing and someone else snapped it up.

No, I love the v6 too much despite the recent and ongoing pain, which reminds me an update is due.

Indeedy - when somebody just posts S2, I think Elise... Odd one, never realised that I mentally do that.

Good question Campbell, on reflection, probably hoping deep down someone with a nice RGB offers it to me for sale - lol!

Hendeg was talking about the 2nd one at our meet up in St Andrews, since he has one.

People (Kathy ?) were sure his had been nicked and the plates changed, thinking there wouldn’t be 2 in the same area.
