It’s a decent road with some cameras to beware of. If you stay on it to Bishop Auckland ish, it avoids A1 Newcastle bypass car park.
Poss less of an issue on a Sunday though.
Looking at lunch ideas in due course.

I'm sure there's a fantastic route down the middle through the Pennines, Dales and Peek District but I imagine it would take quite a while.

There sure is. In my younger days, I plotted and enjoyed exactly such.hendeg wrote:I'm sure there's a fantastic route down the middle through the Pennines, Dales and Peek District but I imagine it would take quite a while.
But didn’t think it would be appreciated !
Plus some bits could be dire with cake hunter Sunday drivers
I’ll see what I can do though...

Re: LoT - Donington & Oulton - 28-29 Oct 2019
a68 is good but you need to be early. It's so twisty and there are few good passing places. You can easily get held up behind a train of traffic if the guy at the front has no intentions to overtake and doesn't leave enough room for anyone else to... you're better off turning off the 68 and onto the 697 coldstream road. Much faster with plenty of overtaking places/long straights. Again, mind the cameras whichever route you take
If you need to go even faster, just imagine you are me.

This might be a good compromise ^
Use it a lot en route to North Yorks.
Plus could book lunch at Village Inn, Longframlington
