New Member - Edinburgh, S1 Elise

Post by BREMBO » Thu Jun 18, 2020 12:40 pm

Good afternoon everybody.

I bought my first Elise S1 just before lockdown. Its a silver, standard 1.8 Elise S1. This is now my 'daily' car. Think I've lost the plot. Original plan was for a nice Golf/Audi but I love cars and have always fancied an Elise, especially the S1. Went with the attitude of you only live once and I hope the depreciation in this little car will be small, I think they are starting to look like real classics.

I'm looking to get the car checked over and would welcome thoughts on the Lotus specialist in Edinburgh or Manor Garage just outside Edinburgh? I have heard good things about both but any thoughts would be appreciated.

Few pictures below :)

Welcome aboard - lovely looking car, enjoy using it as much as possible.
I don't know much about Manor Garage, but Craig Moncrieff's reputation on this board is legendary.
Have a look at this thread to confirm -

Glen Etive on a nice day is a great location for some photos. How spirited was the driving? Is that your passenger losing their lunch in the last pic?

Late model S1, the purists will already be telling you it's too heavy and how their early model S1 weighed only 650kg with a full tank of fuel :-)

Looks nice car and surprisingly clean considering it's the best part of 20 years old I think? Enjoy it!

New Aly S1. Classic indeed.

Set aside £1k-£2k per year for thorough maintenance and fixes, drive it often and all year (but not in salt) and enjoy.

There’s nothing like it.

But do remember, it’s a classic, and you should make allowances

Craig Moncrieff has looked after my Lotuses and more for 10 yrs or so. Pop in to see him.

In the west (for balance) people are keen on Ken Brown Motor Engineers.

I’d add myself to the Moncrieff fan club. Excellent.

I’m non lotus at the moment after having a few, will be back but it will be a S2 or S3 elise
Familiar location though, wonder how many people have now stopped somewhere on that road, some of my favourite 968 photos when we were out a January run :thumbsup

Welcome.

Another vote for Craig Moncrieff, excellent attention to detail. I travel from Ayrshire to have Craig do all my servicing or anything else on my car.

Welcome. Another from Edinburgh here. Plenty of local meet-ups and stuff to blether with other lotus owners. Your S1 looks lovely 👍🏼
