Elise rental?

Post by DCR34 » Fri Feb 19, 2021 2:10 pm

Sorry if this has been asked before however I can’t see it from doing a search. Been a long time enthusiast of Lotus cars from the Esprit and more recently the Elise. Probably not in a position to own one right now but is there anyone that can rent me one in central Scotland? I’ve never been in an Elise let alone driven one. Although I’m pretty sure I’d sign on the dotted line the minute I got behind the wheel. I’m not the type to BS a dealer into blagging a test drive so don’t really want to go down that route. Thanks all.

Hi DCR

Not that I know of but once track days are permitted again you’ll be able to get up close (and in) to many Elise variants (and there are LOTS) at Knockhill or further afield.

Got a rough budget yet?

It's not quite the same but there is a couple of caterham hire companies in Scotland. Depending on what you have driven in the past it at least gives you a taste of what driving a lightweight, back-to-basics car is like.

I hired one from Highland Caterham Hire before I bought my Elise and it's what got me ready to buy.

Yeah good point. Not been to Knockhill in ages! Not considered budget as yet but if the right one comes along.

Caterhams are very cool but it’s gotta have a lotus badge I’m afraid. Worked my way thru 4 MX-5’s which is usually a gateway drug leading on to a Lotus eventually but never took the punt yet.

Thanks. Still trying to figure out a rental. Probably not poss by the looks of it tho. Thankfully I could push the budget a little further as it would have to be a daily driver so room to invest.

If it’s a daily - have you considered an Evora? Just an idea....

If you are in West Lothian or a bordering county, you are welcome to a look around mine.

2013 Club Racer S. Replaced a 1999 S1 which I’d owned from new. So can share an insight or two...

Not its cleanest here but at least it’s turned a wheel this winter Image

May take you up on that! I’m in Dunfermline but work at Newbridge so yeah if we ever get control of this Covid I’ll give you a shout.

Either works.

I can exercise in Hopetoun estate, which is near your commute over the bridge. Or on the Union canal towpath, which isn’t far from Newbridge. Just shout if you want to catch up sometime.

Best I could find is this Elan

https://www.bookaclassic.co.uk/lotus-el ... self_drive

Might be worth keeping an eye on that site in case an Elise pops up.
