It's more the legend than anything else - well, apart from the fact he really can drive rings round ANYBODY in an Elise. He also has the rare ability to pass that knowledge on, unlike most.

The fact he's a total loon and just another one of us also engenders a helluva lot of good feeling towards the guy.

As for other trainers - of course! There's no substitute for track time. There's nobody I know of who's really bad - people just harp on about Walshy because he's so focused on the Elise that he knows it inside out.

That means from minute 1, he's teaching you exactly what will happen in any given situation - you'll learn more stuff more quickly with Andrew.

But, like I say, any training is good training - I believe KH are good, it's just they concentrate more on going round their track quicker and not so much on general technique, AFAIK.

Hope that helps a bit 8)

not done the kh training, but simon ironside has and said it was sh*t. the guy kept telling him to slow down, so they seem more intent on learning the lines etc than actually driving any faster.

i've done the plans motorsport training. not worth 200 quid. although they are a good place for servicing/setup if your in that neck of the woods.

training at the LOT trackdays can be good, depending on which instructor you get.

i reckon most trackday stuff is good for learning circuits etc, but you'd be better off learning car control first to make the most of what the circuit instructor is telling you.

p.s. have a look at the walshy dvd clips if you want to know what all the fuss is about

Really? Only folk I've talked to about KH said it was okay... Maybe he got a crap instructor....

That's what it boils down to, I suppose. Walshy's a known quantity.

i might book on the kh training just to get a shotty on the circuit before xmas. That way, if there sh*t, i can ignore them and still get 25 laps or whatever it is. just an idea, an one else fancy it??

KH training is not all bad just remember its marketed at track novices and getting them up to speed. From there on its pure luck who you get in the car with you will make or brake your session. I had fun and found some speed so cant complain :D

Walshy used to test for Benetton, is a complete nutter and (so he said earlier this year) has "an addiction to adrenaline" and his doctor told him to cut down on coffee, beer and anything that gets the adrenaline pumping.

He told us he drinks a little less coffee now

He's also fairly good in an Elise.

i'd be up for a run south to do one of the walshy days.

Have seen his DVD also, available from Seloc....pretty genial, and watching him on track is tremendous.

also have done the KH thing.

Did it after my first track day in the elise, and found it very helpful but mainly because it tipped down, and i got to see what the car could really do in the wet with someone who knew the track and car control inside out, at my side.

I thought it was pretty good, but the guy admitted himself that you get the most out of it if your lucky enough to have it rain.

Get the neovas on, put on the standard head and get your ass out on track. Then it's a semi fair playin field. Till then. . . . . am no playin :P

I've done KH and Walshy and there isn't really a comparison TBH.

I found the KH session to be really really helpful before my first trackday as i got to know lines and got some insight into quite how quick my humble griffin can be round the track. This meant i was much more comfortable on my first track day.

The walshy day at crail was amazing, to the extent that I've probably forgotten as much as I learnt such was the pace. I don't think I'd benefit from anotehr KH day, but i know i'd get a lot from another walsy day........if for no other reason that I'm now much more confident in the car and my drivign has moved from the very bottom rung to one slighty higher (second from bottom  )

IMHO the best recommendation for carlimits / walshy is the fact that people like Neil et al keep going back and paying the cash.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

Andy,

You realise that when he made the DVD, he was still suffering from concussion?

Perhaps somebody else would care to enlighten us why? (It kinda explains the Walsh 'mentality') 8)

I know, I know!!!!

He had just recently split the back of his head open during a "how far can I jump off this bin" competition.

It was dry when he went into the pub but wet when he came out, so rather than going forward he went up and landed on the back of his head.

It delayed the production of the DVD as he was due to to the dubbing later that week, but it took for a fair bit longer to remember that he was a racing driver.

I'd be up for a KH sesh, or heading darn sarf for a wilshy  day.

I would need a bit of notice to get out of the other half's shedule of planned weekends for the next decade!
