I get the impression, via my UNTRAINED eye, that a couple of RSS or feed-type mods are available?

Not hung up on this, was just a thought...could be the kind of thing that helps the occasional poster/browser keep easier track of activity and spot that key thread they'd like to contribute to. Harks back to all the concerns from us old dinosaurs about losing the classic email basis!

Perhaps it's worth a poll? I never even thought about RSS for anything until I found Google desktop...

Don't even think that's necessary TBH Campbell, obviously it's wanted and it's not an option which would affect the site for those who don't want it. I can see no reason to object...

Can someone with more time than me, have a look through the list that Simon posted up and check out what looks like the best mod to use?

We've got the RSS mod at work and it's pretty rubbish tbh. All it does is list the topics and you have to visit the forum to read them anyway. It's not something I would bother using.

But doesn't it auto-notify your RSS "reader" eg Google Desktop webclips, that a new topic has been started? Kinda like email notification...that's what attracted me.

Campbell you are spot on young man - use it for news on google desktop.

However it is more distracting when working, popping up every 5 minutes when Ed posts as he has no work to do!

Ed - you wouldn't like it as it would take a couple of hours out of your day that you spend just refreshing!

Dunno, probably though I can't remember as I switched it off within minutes of realising I didn't like it.
Don't really use RSS feeds myself anyway but if it's an easy mod to do then there's no reason not to do it. Not that it'd be me doing it, that's ironside's job :P

Yup... you can tell your RSS reader how often to look for updates to the forum/headlines etc. too....

It works pretty well for the SEL*OCK forum...

We've just recently got RSS on blatchat - I was curious enough to upgrade to IE7 (disnae work on IE6) to see what all the fuss was about, and tbh, I see no great benefit

I think with RSS, you either get into using it - so you really miss when it's not there, or you just don't get along with it (which is the camp I fall into)

Good thing is, we can install and keep everyone happy - those who don't wanna use it will see no change. 8)

So, we'll just let Simon I install an RSS mod when he gets a spare minute.
