Driving mitts - Sparco or reccommended other...

During the recent frosty mornings I have taken to driving to work in my snug gortex gloves, saves clutching at a cold knob in the morn (fnarr) Discovered that I quite like the feel of driving with gloves.

Toyed with the idea of getting some proper race mittens in the past as last few track days have resulted in some whopping blisters and some slippy steering wheel moments on greasy palms.

Looking for cheap and chearful reccommendations - something thin, light with grippy fingers for a leather steering wheel.

I use the liners from my Burton ski gloves. They've got a kinda plasticy grippy pattern on the palm and it's perfect for driving (although I ain't used on track, so don't know how they'd be for that).

Although you obviously don't want to go buying a set of ski gloves just for the liners, I think you can buy the liners separately and it might be cheaper than proper race gloves?

Try Demon Tweeks, they do them from £15 up to 'for a feckin pair of gloves'

All sorts from OMP,Sparco etc. They all do same thing more or less just different qualities of materials and flameproofing. They're designed for the job so work well IMHO. Although along with shiny new driving boots they do rather make a statement

I use to have a pair of sparco racing gloves (circa £30 5 years ago) but lost them

I have been using some cycling gloves lately; warm, and grippy on the steering wheel.

The driving gloves (even flame proof) are pretty light weight (good for driving) but not very warm. I never really trusted if they were indeed fire proof, lets face it, at £30 I was not in a hurry to stick my hand in a fire to find out

I bought some Sparco Karting Gloves from Demon Tweaks a couple of years back (circa £15). Suede & lightly padded at the contact points of the palm.

The karting gear is half the price of the Car stuff... think the car stuff is normally fireproof. The back of the right hand glove has gone a bit crinkly after I must have touched the exaust on a kart...

Anyway, they do the job nicely (enough to keep the air chill away anyway)... and have served me well on a few karting nights instead of those sweaty things they give you.[/url]

Yes, my fingers are nice and warm thanks but its black lambskin

They aren't quite as nice as my pig skin gloves, but they make me look weird (OK more weird) cos their white and they are freezing in winter!

Tried a pair of gloves once coming back from KH at night in Winter over Glenshee, with the top off of course, but felt like a right woofter, so gave them to Oxfam.

Why? Bugger up heeling & toeing?

Should've tried them on you hands
