Very much depends on the area I think, Winnipeg (frozen wasteland - think Northern Exposure without the charm) is cheap. ie 5 bedroom large detached with a couple of acres for 120,000 (2 yr old info from when we were there). Calgary (exceptionally new city, fabulous location with jsut a couple of hours to Banff etc. Oil rich.) more like Edinburgh. We found, in our exceptionally unscientific study (we were considering moving ourselves) that it wasn't as cheap as we'd heard, resteraunts groceries etc similar to home although that was in a very upmarket area of Calgary.CSK_423 wrote: 1. I'd also add our personal opinion that it's a lovely dramatic place with great scenery, Calgary a cool place but a very different social scene to here, not into their drink in the same way we are and the locals seem nice but low key if that makes sense. Winnipegg felt like the UK in the 80s, just with attitudes and fashion. Bit behind us - the friends who moved there found it quite hard to make friends and they are quite a gregarious couple.
The pay we would have got wouldn't have made the move worthwhile for us, nor were we as enamoured with the place as we expected to be. If we went it would very much depend which city.
