Filter Issues

Well, tried to fit my ITG last night.

Problem 1: couldn't get the bottom left clip of the air box out as there was a load of wires running over the top of it.

Problem 2: Looks like there are a number of cracks on the tube running from the filter box to the left side-pod. Cracks about 1 1/2 inches long, which probably means my air is coming from the eingine compartment rather than the side pod. Can't see any easy way of getting the pipe replaced without taking the clam off - sorely tempted to send her back to MMC Glasgow as a warranty issue - doubt those cracks could've materialised since September & 2.5k miles. In the event that the pipe needs replacing, I'm guessing I'm better off replacing the standard box with a full ITG/Hurricane induction kit?

It a nutshell - Yes.

The current layout, on both cars is quite conveluted(sp) and although it is design to flow air, it's also designed to keep noise to a minimum.

Bit the bullet and go for a full induction system rather than a panel filter.

I doubt the cracks will make any difference (negligible flow through them). Std. setup isn't a true cold air feed anyway (my S2 111S had the air pickup at the rear of the engine bay).

Panel will improve the flow (although the pipework is convoluted the restriction is the filter) but best solution will always be a full induction system (but more $$$).

Thinking about an ITG panel for the Exige...

if the s2 exige panel is the same size as the S1 - you can have mine if things go t!ts up!

I'm going to mail Gavin at MMC to see how I can get on with a Warranty shot.

She said it was probably some, "clips," that had fallen out that would not be replaced under warranty, and because I'd bought from glasgow I had to speak to glasgow - any warranty work in Edin for a glasgow bought car had to be paid for by gavin at MMC weedge.

Wasn't too impressed by that response!

I had to 'modify' one of my clips to get it out, I just put a big screw driver into it and twisted it off then re-shaped it after (Then took out the airbox anyway...)

The hose to the side intake is made of dairylea, mine looked like the time team had just dug it up, it just fell apart - bin and replace. I would have thought Halfrauds expanding air ducting would do the trick, light and flexible, it's not as if it has any pressure in it. Might be worth contacting Geary from Elise parts to see if they have any of the Hurricane ducting, its really tough and kink resistant.

I fitted my hurricane through the engine compartment eventually, but aparently removing the wheel arch liner makes things much easier. I suspect that you might be able to replace it through there.

Hmmm, okay. The 'clips' thing would be the most common cause - they slip off at the gearbox end and allow too much movement in the selector cables - dunno why that wouldn't be warranty work though.

I don't know what the internal politics of the situation was when you asked, but it's now changed - Pauline has posted that she now has free reign to deal with any customer care issues and is very keen to sort things out...

Now, she has been very careful to post MMC Edinburgh in all that she write, so it may be the case that Glasgow needs to deal with Glasgow, but it wasn't the impression she gave. She also stepped in to sort out the hassles I had with Glasgow over my windscreen.

On a slightly related note, my personal view (and most others that I've spoken to) of MMC Glasgow is well known and not worth going into again. Put it this way - I'd make the time to drive through to Edin for anything now and I really can't spare that sort of time.

Nope, yota mota's are a different size (S1 and S2 K-series filterboxes are are the same IIRC).

Those are the phuckers. Weird, sometimes they require the muscles of Garth to shift and sometimes they fall off.

I'm completely guessing here but as it's an S1 you have, any warranty that came with the car will have been supplied by whoever you bought from (MMC Glasgow in this case) and not the manufacturer. That means your warranty has nothing to do with Lotus Cars and as far as MMC Glasgow and MMC Edinburgh are concerned, they are separate businesses. That means any warranty work you get done elsewhere would need to be authorised and paid for by MMC Glasgow.

But that could be a lot of rubbish :P

Hey guys...

doesnt matter that MMC gave you the warranty. I assume its Car Care Plan, if its not a manufacturers warranty...think anyone can fix your car under that warranty...
