Ricky,

Why turn your back on a car that has saved your life? The same thing could have happened in a eurobox which don't have F1 style breakoff zones and a safety cell.

I actually think that in the right hands that car could be repaired - the crash structure which is a bonded on item will need replaced but the main tub looks Ok.

Take some time before saying never, please.

I know the car probably did save my life (well deffo did actually), think the point family and friends are making is that if i had been in a "normal" car it may not have acted in the manner it did when it hit the water, and may not have rolled over.

I know its all what if's now, but has still given me alot to think about.

Who knows, when the insurers pay out, i may sneak along to MMC and buy another Lotus, just at this moment in time cars, ecspecially sports ones arent very high on the priority list.

You could always buy a cheap one as a track car, so you could still have all that fun but in a safer environment then have a eurobox for the daily runner.

Either way, you are at least still here to make that decision!

I've been looking for a winter car for a couple of months now - need to get my ass in gear.

No harm in you swithcing to a normal car for now, and in time you might feel like coming back to a Lotus.

I know of another elise driver who was involved in a roll in their car. Their other half wasn't too keen until they saw the accident location and the state of the vehicle afterwards.

It soon became a priority for a replacement to be found as they are so bloody tough.

That said I can understand the other point of view - if your not in a light, high powered sports car then perhaps you won't be involved in that situation and it's hard to get a layperson to understand.

As everybody has said previously - at least your here to make the decision.

I have seen plenty!
I also doubt as mac says that all normal cars would have protected you the way the elise did.....due to their increased mass!
What you're after is an exige.....hardtop time!

I would be fine owning another Lotus, i know how safe it is, other people doubt them, altho after they actually see the pictures, i am sure they will agree to just how safe a car it is.

Been looking at Exige's for sale on PH, wouldnt mind an S. However have started looking at Noble's, anybody got any experience with M12's? Also been looking at 348's and F355's, along with M3's(Do nothing for me at'all).

Any suggestions? Im gonna go test drive an Exige S sometime soon, but wanna try a few other sports cars aswell, so anybody know what i should try?

I have also decided that what ever i buy next will be a DRY day only car, no more wet weather stuff.

Just done that today - too much snow, rain and ice for the Elise this winter. And a heater that works, Im spoiled

How safe are they in an accident?

Safety is gonna be a huge factor in my next purchase, i do like T350's, almost bought one before the Elise.

I believe t350's have a built in roll bar across the top of the windscreen Ricky.... but, TBH, with more power going through the back wheels in what is still a relatively light car (I say relative, but not comparing to Lotus)... I'd hazard a guess that the same accident may well have still happened in a T350.

Sure, a T350 has extra weight so you would think that might help the tyres cut through the water below, but the engine is up front, not over the back wheels... and I'm not sure I'd be wanting to break traction of the rears in a TVR over standing water any more than I'd want to in a Lotus.

I'm sure you mentioned before that you were going to hibernate the Lotus over winter... but the urge got you... If you are sure this time that your next sporty car is going to be dry days only then there's no problem getting another Lotus then eh
