For the sake of £20, I'd just take it to Croft or somewhere.pete wrote:OK so it' back and it hasn't stopped raining.
And I'm still running it in.
And it's great. I love my car.
(To change oil, do I just have to crawl under that very small space under the car (it's up on a few planks but it's still effing low).
The exhausts are fouling on the rear grills. How do you re-position them?

Re: Lotusless in 2009
you should be able to get to it with the blocks of wood under the car.
My axel stands are still in your garage if you want more height
If the exhaust is like my S1 there are adjustment bolts in the boot

Ps If you think cars are maintenance intensive and expensive don’t even think about boats. Out a couple of weeks ago, a squall came through and blew out four grands worth of Carbon Kevlar. Turned it to dust!

If the clamps are slack just grab the exhaust outlets and pull them up . If they don't move you may have to adjust clamps.pete wrote:OK so it' back and it hasn't stopped raining.

Why its changed position , who knows .
Disclaimer : make sure the exhaust is cold before grabbing it .

Of course it is a good idea. It just comes with a wallet warning. A bit like owning a Lotus.pete wrote:Suzy is convinced it is a good idea
I did the course years ago but I must admit that I have forgotten most of it.

Water in expansion tank now well below MIN.
Paranoia kicked in and I chatted to Dan, who re-iterated Shug's "It may find a level below MIN to settle to".
Had local garage run sniffer test - inconclusive.
This is sh*t. It's ruining the enjoyment of owning the car, watching the temp gauge obsessively, convinced it's not fixed.

Pete
It could be something as simple as a leaking header tank. I've noticed mine's sitting a bit low too and spotted this thread on Seloc.
Good luck!

When properly cold (i.e. first thing in the morning), fill to MIN level. Replace head tank cap unless you know for sure that it has been replace in the last year. Buy a proper part if you can - pattern parts may fit the tank but may vent at pressures other than the one that Rover thought was right. Pretty sure Elise parts sell the right cap. Who knows, MMC might have one in stock. Bell & Colville, Christopher Neil, etc., might mail order you one for a small price. It's really worth fitting the right part is the point I'm trying to make here
I've yet to hear a logical reason for the cap to vent when the car is within normal operating conditions (i.e. less than 110C coolant temperature) and the tank is at MIN level when cold (i.e. around 20C).
BTW, Egor has developed a fault over FF where the coolant level is constantly dropping - haven't yet worked out if it's a leak or HGF, but I'm going to change the cap first and hope the problem goes away
Just so you know you're not alone - perhaps we can start a self help group of some sort - paranoid coolant monitors unite!
Cheers,
Robin

Of course the problem (if there even is one) could be similar, but that's a Toyota engine'd car with a different header tank design.neil wrote:Pete
