You could use a greasy Tap, cover the tap in thick grease and take half a hurn on the tap.
remove, replace grease and another half turn.

maybe worthwhile using a borascope just to check when finished

A few bits of tiny ali swarf can be blasted out with compressed air. Should be ok...

there is a head shop on the lang stracht behind belmont vauxhall next to autosonic, they have skimmed heads for me in the past, not been there for a few years so not sure if the place is still there but worth a try. they were pretty cheap aswell

i think the place in whitemyers industrial estate is away. Gibbs tools on king st sell helicoil kits, Falconers sells the inserts and he let me take the tool away to do it at home if i wanted. ended up not needing to but anyhoo....
just use grease to collect the swarf. you wont have much luck with hoovers or compressors to collect it. the plugs are in too deep. and i think there would be more chance of it blowing into the engine.
you could be smart and line the engine up so the inlet is open and pressurise the cylinder to try and blow the swarf out the plug hole...but thats getting a bit silly.

at the end of the day. if any swarf does get in, it will soon blow out the bores in the first secs of running, its only aluminium.

Would that be Precision Engine Services? Saw them on a phone book listing, but no more you say? Bummer!

Had a look again last night and I can see why people wouldn't fancy it, those plugs are a loooong way down. But then I had a look at the access available to remove the components required to get the head off - nice!!! Worse than a VX/Elise? Most definitely!

you will get a 2nd hand head from persley for about £25 (probably cheaper than arsing about with helicoils) , get a gasket set and you would be as well doing the job right if your thinking the head has to come off anyway.

Dropped it off at Falconers last night after a renewed plea on Saturday! Disconnected the injector and drove it out to Blackburn on 3 cylinders, very embarassing. So they're gonna do it in-situ, just keeping fingers crossed they dont phone up and say "Poke this they're too far down in there, come take it back!" Not because I really will hve to take the head off, but because I'll have to drive the fecker again.

Replaced the rest of the plugs tonight and put it back together, seems to be running fine. Still got a MIL but will hook up the laptop to try and clear any DTCs in t'mornin.

PS he did not have a lot of good things to say about K-series :o despite the fact they must've given him lots of business over the years!! Had a VVC top end on the bench in bits with a cracked "half cam" - £££££! My GF was a bit gutted haha.
