So what classes a 'Muppet'.
As a newish member of the forum (Dec 07) and haven't been on a track-day, road run or beers night yet, does this mean I and members like me fall into this category?
I've found this to be a great site and source of info, advice and occassional laughs. I suspect that the success of the site has maybe diluted content for those who have beeing members for longer but there will always be Newbie's to ask the same old questions.

If we were would we be able to smoke cigars and have dancing girls (or boys) ?
I think we just need a good ol SE beer session where we can bully the weak.

Newbies have always and will always (I hope) be welcomed with open arms. Everyone was a newbie once. I was the youngest member of SE when I joined, and didn't even own an Elise yet. The warm welcome I got is what SE is all about for me. I don't think anyone is automatically classed as a muppet just for being new. I had to work hard for the title and I think everyone else damned well should too!

As SE2 grows and gains a higher profile in the world of t'internet (and as Loti are still realtively affordable) then there will enevitably be some members who don't gel as easily as others. So be it. You can always ignore them. I think that when you compare SE to other forums i frequent the balance here is overwhelmlingly postive and away from the muppets. Jeesh you should take a visit to vx220.org.uk if you want to see real muppetry in action. Is muppetry a word ? Who knows.
Fact is I love this place and all who sail in her*.
I too was once a newbie, and a vauxhall owning one at that, and the only thing i'd say to any newbies who havent yet attended a beers / trackday / run is to just turn up as within 10 mins you'll be a newbie no longer. The warm welcome and friendly p*ss taking that extends to newbies has to be seen to be believed. Of course meeting people in a layby that you met over the internet may be seen as strange to some............so it's not compulsory.
* with a couple of possible exceptions........

OK here goes....a post before I'm shot down
This place has lost all Scottish Elises etiquette.
There's no good banter or worthwhile content.
Too many traffic light racers creating arguments amongst members.
The thread in Newbies - Holly - went so far off the mark it was embarrassing and quite rightly closed by Robin.
Not just new members posting inappropriate content but older ones too
This place is full of advertising when really it's not allowed
Beginning of the year I took about 3 months out, came back thinking things may have improved...they haven't.
I've met some good friends on here but those friends were mostly originals on SE1.
COME BACK SE1...ALL IS FORGIVEN. The format was pish but is filtered out a lot of idiots who couldn't be bothered with it.

That's your view and your entitled to it. I'll say it another way. Peoples opinions of "When SE Was Good" is coloured by when they joined. Yours is back in the Yahoo days, and fair enough, I can see why. But that changed - not remember the undercurrent because of the drivel posts?
The only constant is change and if you don't like the forum now, it's a shame, but there's no way SE would have stayed the same - nothing ever does.

Tend to agree with Shug, yes there is a lot of drivel in general chat but at least that is the correct place for it. The runs and trackday threads are the real SE as far as I am concerned and they haven't changed much at all as far as I can tell.

See, this is the problem. I don't think anybody was referring to you guys, along with the vast majority of new members, as muppets. Of course, if you're new, you don't know quite what folks are going on about and if they
are referring to you...
So, great - more gum flapping and it's putting off new members who have nothing to apologise for....

My main interest on here are trackdays and looking at pics in the Gallery.
The rest is drivel.

Cool - so don't look at the other forums then
That's the advantage of the forum format. Everyone's happy.
