the car was hit in the best possable place and it should all bolt back together quite easy

Man, that is a real shame - I think I know just where you mean too - it doesn't make it any better to know it's diesel, but you'll know to look out for the tell-tale shimmer of diesel on the roundabout in the future ...

I would be surprised if that is written off. Assuming the doors open and close properly, a new rear clam, new subframe, possible new lower wishbones, though probably not, new exhaust system back to the engine, plus whatever trimmings (undertray, boot lining, battery tray, etc.). Sure it'll be a good few K, but not 10 - assume the car is in the 20's region it should be repaired, no?

Often when you see a crash you're praying for a write off, because you really don't want the car back ... from the pictures you've posted I think I would be OK getting the car back.

The clam would actually repair if you have most of the bits - try and get it back from the garage when you get it repaired - they'll just toss it in the skip, but actually it's a good spare clam for a LOT crasher ...

What is going on these days... people are just falling off the road with more and more regularity... sometimes the luck just runs out..

Glad your Ok, and also glad you have someone who will testify if need be but I somehow doubt that will make any difference to the insurer.

I think Murray moters handed out something about an accident management company.. might be worth getting in touch with one if not already done so.. someone will post up the info...

Glad to hear your alright. As has been said cars can be fixed. Had the same happen to me not long after I got my Elise, spun out slow speed and smacked an armco barrier. Gutted for you, but again, glad nobody was hurt.

Dont beat yourself up over it mate, and it doesnt look like a write off in my "completely unprofessional but spent years of looking at internet forums" eyes. Send it down south to one of the big car builders / repairers places for repair?

Sorry to hear about the accident but as everyone else is saying at least you came out unscathed.

As for the car I'd go with Scotty and estimate around £8k for the repair. Where it looks as though the main impact was should have missed the main chassis structure and engine supports so a rear clam, brackets, exhaust, diffuserand the associated extras could be all you are looking at. I was rear ended a few months back and the repair cost came to £6k for repair with slightly less impact than you (10-15mph) in almost the same spot although it was a poxy Rover 75 and not a lamp post. I think the insurance assessor may have got this down even further by questioning the labour costs.

Check your insurance and what cover you have as you might be able to get a replacement vehicle of a similar standard (I got an Alfa Spider convertible) whilst yours gets seen to. The company Adrian Flux got involved for me was Angel Assistance, service is good although the Spider was delivered with zero tread, and I mean zero (worn right through the steel banding on both front tyres!). Needless to say that they got the bollocking they deserved as the last thing you need when recovering with whiplash is a car with no traction. Didn't seem to do much good so now trading standards are on their back so let's see how they like that bag of onions.

The diesel things a big issue especially up here in Aberdeen as due to the road infrastructure all large vehicles basically use the same roads as all commuters with shed loads of roundabouts. If this isn't bad enough there's a load of lorries transporting fish products which spill the fish oil all over the road in much greater quantities than diesel topping can do. Not only does it stink but it's almost impossible to detect when it's damp/wet. I've had a few close calls both in the car and on the bike (not good when you feel the front end go) but so far have been able to avoid any incidents.

Hope it all works out and you get the motor back on the road quick-time. Shame to see lovely cars go to waste.
