Next time it does it, stop the car, open the boot and push the throttle quadrant to fully close it. If this reduces your idle to normal levels then you've probably got dirt in the throttle body. Remove the throttle body to clean it, but also remove the IACV from the bottom or all the dirt will simply fall down there and make the problem worse.
Do you have an induction kit fitted? If so, throw it in the bin and replace it with the standard exige airbox before you have to splash out the best part of 1k to replace your worn throttle body. One of the best upgrades I have done on my Exige was to go back to the standard airbox, the throttle response and driveability is far superior compared to the performance with the terrible Pipercross system that was on the car originally.

It's an S2 Elise I've got but I'm guessing your comments are still relevant...SteveBanks wrote:Next time it does it, stop the car, open the boot and push the throttle quadrant to fully close it. I took the car back to MMC - they did a software update but it doesn't seem to have fixed anything, although when the engine's cold it seems to be running fine...
I guess it's back again to MMC! (might as well make use of my warranty!)
thanks to everyone for giving some ideas as to what could be going wrong
