Yep, any like for like Koni replacement should be done as a temp fix only.

Some low-miles pre-owned S2 K-series Bilsteins might be found on various forum Classifieds sections, from people who have traded up to Nitrons and the like.

If none immediately obvious, consider a "wanted" ad for them - worth a shot?

Hello,

I'm switching from Koni's to s2 bilsteins at some point next week ( bought them ages ago and they are sitting in spare room).

If you can wait a week you can have the full set of koni's for maybe £30? Two of the dampers are 14 months old which is embarassingly only about 4000 miles. ( They were put on just before I bought the car, previous owner kept the receipt as it was required for its MoT) The springs should be fine as well. If you want them drop me a PM, can get them checked for you when they come off the car as well so you get a better opinion! Can drop them off in rutherglen as well.

Kev

Thanks for everyones help, didn't really want just to patch her up for the mot and run the risk of grumbling ongoing issues (at least in my head). So with that in mind, NSS's have been ordered with AndyG's help :)

Is fitting as easy as changing to blisteins with the nitrons? Need to replace my konis this year and looking at options. Nitrons would seem a good bit cheaper?

Based on swapping dampers about 4 times now, the unbolting and bolting on are almost trivial (see, I can say that now!) however if the new dampers have any adjustability whatsoever, that will need time, knowledge and patience in varying amounts to set up correctly.

And then 100 notes afterwards for a thorough geo setup to get the best out of it all and ensure you don't wreck your tyres or experience "unusual" handling characteristics!

Finally, if an Elise is lowered considerably, some people elect to adjust the steering rack height, which needs a bit of time, knowledge, patience and possibly articulated joints too ;-)

All in all it's a doddle and the first thing I ever did to my car on my own

Well got the NSS installed yesterday, what a difference so quiet, like a normal car when going over potholes :( I always thought a lot of the noise was from the rattling undertray, but is must have been the classic knocking koni's instead. Anyway more than pleased with the purchase so far getting the Geo reset on Friday so with a bit of luck the weekend will be dry and allow for a quick blast around the local winding roads.
