You could book it in for the MOT down here too then you'd be covered to drive down to get the rack fitted.

You have to be careful about that. Yes you are OK to drive it to place of repair/MOT by appointment, but I believe you have to use the shortest route (though that in itself could be folklore) - a friend of mine got pulled by plod in Halfrauds car park en route to MOT (was purchasing bulb for broken lamp). It was 0.2 miles detour (he knows this because he ended up using Autoroute to work it out) and they were threatening to do him ... sheesh, I know it's a tired old cliché, but do they have nothing better to do!
Anyway, I could imagine them getting shirty about travelling 100-ish miles to get the car repaired (I wonder if there are any MOT stations in Gibraltar or better yet, the Falklands!).
