Mind if I ask why? Health reasons/hangovers (lack of) or something else? I am thinking of trying it for a while see how I feel. Sick of hangovers. Also it is rather expensive...hendeg wrote:I've been alcohol-free for 4 years now. One of my first non-alcohol beers was unbelievably an Amstel in Amsterdam during French Frolic! I think they'd put something else in it though. I also quite like a Cobra Zero.

I was hoping you'd got the title words mixed up in a drunken moment.... I was looking for some free beer vouchers, Gutted!

I have pretty much given up drink these days too. I got fed up of feeling like sh*t the day after drinking and recovery took so long that a heavy Friday night could cancel a whole weekend. I also discovered a few years back that I have an allergy to alcohol and some beers, and most lagers, gave me hay fever/ cold type symptoms. Imitially I took a nasal spray which stopped it happening but it meant even the odd pint now and then required pre drink medicationscottishselise wrote: I am thinking of trying it for a while see how I feel. The advantage of the alcohol reduced lifestyle is fuller wallet and not having to plan nights out around public transport.

I had my first sober Hogmamay since I was about 16
Through choice btw, I wasn't offshore
wife and kids to my bro's house which is about 7 miles from home and I really didn't want to line a taxi man's pockets
And - it wasn't that bad! But the diet coke (one can of Guinness for the bells) induced burping and farting which resulted was interesting
Fresh as a daisy New Year's Day so got right on it.

Re: Alcohol free beer
Mostly because I was becoming an arse when I was drunk. It was like I was someone else and I didn't like it. The decision to give up coincided with a major operation so it was pretty easy for me to do it. There have been quite a few times where I've fancied having a drink and I've decided not to, which does make me feel like I'm a recovering alcoholic sometimes.scottishselise wrote:Mind if I ask why? I don't feel like I'm missing out - I can still go out and have a laugh. I just have to drive through Aberdeen in the small hours to remind myself why I don't drink any more.

I work for a brewery and get tonnes of free beer and cider but end up giving it away. I just about choked the last time I was out and the barman said it was £4.50 a pint for the stuff I can get for nothing. £4 bloody 50!!!!

Alcohol free beer
Free beer! Wow
Tried the Becks Blue tonight. Not convinced, I can still taste it's stale sourness despite the fact I've since had a cup of tea and brushed my teeth.
Guess I'll be sticking to fresh orange and lemonade or soda water and lime.

Aye, I'm getting mixed up - Cobra Zero is the one that tastes a bit like beer, not the Becks Blue...

I'll try the Cobra then

Re: Alcohol free beer
You heard about the cobra here first folks
It's ok, but would still rather have a "soft" drink tbh

I just assumed you were.hendeg wrote: which does make me feel like I'm a recovering alcoholic sometimes.

I am drinking less and less these days, less of a binge drinker and more of a regular small tiple, glass of wine hear and there. Hangovers and lost weekends is the biggest motivator as time is more precious these days. Don't really do nights out due to the cost (just the one last year) and I'd rather save that for a holiday or such like.
I've not tried any of the alcohol free stuff but also don't drink fizzy sugar infused soft drinks so it gets a bit boring drinking soda water and lime for an entire night. May give the Cobra a try.
