Double points does give Nico more of a chance, and therefore makes the last race more interesting, but no, the rule is a total farce.

I disagree. A world champion is a world champion.j2 lot wrote:Actually it will make it even more of a hollow victory if the double points changes the outcome - in years to come it will seem like it was implemented to alter the result.
This is going to be a balancing act between cost and relevance again... No question the V8s are cheaper to build and buy (esp for the customer teams like Caterham et al) and sound better, but have little relevance in progressing real world cars. Of course cost is relative to gains and all the engine builders will see benefits in F1 technology in their road car programmes, but this is irrelevant for the teams who actually have to purchase F1 engines.Fluoxetine wrote:Interesting article in The Times sports section yesterday - Writer's opinion / speculation, but it seems that Bernie is behind a push to return to larger capacity V8 engines.
While it may appear something of a backwards step, stranger things have happened - And if they did go this route, Mercedes would very likely withdraw their entry ASAP...
We have that. It's called LMP1, and you are spot on... it is a FAR more interesting sport than F1.steve_weegie wrote: It would be a far more interesting sport if they removed the restrictions on innovation.... Give the teams 100 litres of fuel per race & it's up to them to find the fastest way round.

You could even introduce double points for tier 2 teamsj2 lot wrote:There was already a two (or maybe even 3) tier grid, why not run with that aim- big teams unlimited budget, innovative technology with the aim of pushing the boundary, along with smaller teams, capped budget shared technology. Run 2 separate qualifying sessions to prevent them complaining of being held up and to give an additional focus for fans but one race as they do now.
