Winter tyres. Discuss.

I was pricing up 15 inch tyres and steelies but when these appeared I snapped them up at £550

Winters on my current alloys - 16" (just got the car a week ago, 270 miles on the summers) is about £500.

or spend the cash on 15" steels - thats looking about £800.

swapping the tyres each spring/winter on the 16"alloys - not really sure about that.

4x Grabber ATs ordered for my jeep - price has increased a bit in the last week to 10 days but getting them while I can; 4 stockists out of stock since this time last week with no indication of when they'll be available.

Tawse Tyres in Inverurie seem to have quite a lot of things physically in stock and their prices are on a par with most places, little bit dearer for tyres for my jeep, bit cheaper for tyres for my old man's so works out about even overall. Might be worth a call for the North East guys? Norman @ Tyre Devotion was helpful but simply couldn't get the off road tyres in stock.

would you not be cheaper buying a set of 18" wheels and putting winters on them?

Looked at that but would still need something like a 255/60 r18 for the jeep.

they're about £30 a corner cheaper than the 255/55 19s I've got so not a huge difference by the time I get wheels but the 18s on the M Class would look like buttons; even the 19s look small on it!

Isn't it an odd time of year, swallows are still here flying about so its still summer/autumn, xmas crap is now in every shop and we havent had halloween or bonfire night yet

Not convinced that part worn winters are the bargain that they seem to be after buying a full set of Conti's in the correct size for the BM so much so i bought a new set of Kumho's KW27's.

Will sell the Conti's once it snows for a profit

Was looking for a friend who needed a set on the cheep cheep and apparently has no idea about wheel sizes. Grab a bargain, Camskill are listing these at £390 & £366 EACH!

I am stumped. Plenty of choice for rear winters for the Europa but can't find any to fit the fronts
The rims are 5.5 x 17 and I currently have 195/45 ( standard is 175/55) but it looks like 195 is maximum you can put on 5.5 rims
Apart from buying new rims, which I don't want to do, what would anyone suggest ?

Just bought a set of 16" alloys and tyres for the Xtrail with 7mil of M+S Tyres for £300 delivered.
They are over £100 each for just the tyres so happy with that

Panzers rears were shot so a set of Conti M+S have been purchased for them, with both wagons having snow tyres it better fcking snow!
