I never met him, but he did flash and wave very enthusiastically at me twice over the summer in his Europa!

He seemed a very enthusiastic, genuine and helpful guy, and he'll be a big loss even to those of us on the forum who have never even met him.

To his friends and family I offer my deepest condolences :(

He was a lovely bloke, a real gent, and a good friend. Thankfully managed to get down and see him for the last time two weeks ago after KH.

When I first entered the Scottish Championships in 2003 then 2005, he was always more pleased about my successes than his own, and used to trump them up on S_E1.

He will be deeply missed and irreplaceable.

ps I have all his postings on S_E1 from 2000 to present day, some 2,273 of them, if we wanted to pick any mementos out.

There was never a dull moment with Lawrence, he was always extremely sharp on picking up on a opportunity to catch you off your guard. He was always on the level, and you would always be sure to remember the good times. A true gentleman at all times, and was always there to help. He even got me into trouble, by encouraging me to tell taxi rank jokes.

I am sure that we would all agree to do something special in his memory?

I've posted my thoughts on Jock7s...

I'll just second everything that all the posts on this thread have said. Lawrence was a great bloke who will never be forgotten.

RIP LH

Again, I only met him once or twice, but a thoroughly nice chap, with many words of wisdom. I didn't know he was ill, and having been through the whole chemo thing, i would have very much liked to offer my support, as it isn't nice, however he seemed to stay positive, especially so many posting on his requests for jokes thread.

Sadly I cannot make it on Friday, but rest in peace Lawrence, you will never be forgotten.

Gutted to hear this, from helping me during a spanners & sponges to advising and helping me with silly insulation for my mums loft, Lawrence would always be there to help.

He will be sorely missed by the team.

Numb doesn't even cover it. I didn't know Lawrence half as well as I'd have wanted to, but hearing about this almost floored me. Don't mind admitting I shed a few tears in private.

Perhaps that says what sort of man he was more than any words I've got can.

The man had Lotus running through his veins and his enthusiasm was infectious - his patience and great generosity with his time and knowledge are probably the things I remember most.

I really can't believe we'll never see him grinning like a five year old at the end of an Autotest, or sagely tinkering in the garage ever again.

I believe that time is often the most valuable things someone can give you and Lawrence gave a lot of time to a lot of people. He was a true gent and a friend, and went out of his way to help.

The joy he had when I popped round to see him with the Atom was evident. He was so excited he'd called round some friends as well! I just wish he'd been well enough to take it for a spin.

What a great friend - sadly sadly missed. My thoughts are with Katrina and his family.
Andy a very fitting tribute to a great man I only met him a few times and am shocked by the very sad news. However he was as all have described upon here a true gentleman. Rest in Peace Lawrence God Bless.

Lawrence was one of the first SE members I met back in 2001. He couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. It just seemed like the other day that Verona and I were sitting chatting to him and Katrina in a restaurant before the track day in Dijon this year.

I think Campbell's words sum up the sort of character he was, difficult to add to that.

Thats two motor sport greats that have been taken away from us prematurely this year, Colin Mcrae and him.

I will be there on Friday to pay my respects, as I am sure many many others will be also.

Our thoughts are with Katrina, and the rest of Lawrence's family

Very sad news indeed.

2 days before my first track outting I blew a shock on the cairn-o-mount, no only did Lawerence give me a pair of front shocks he fitted them for me too.

He will be sadly missed :(

Where to begin..?

Lawrence has helped me so much this year, over and above the help and support he has provided Mandy & I since we became elise owners. Along with others Lawrence advised on with spec of Caterham I should be looking at and what to expect for my money. He checked over the photos of the car I found and was the first person I called when Kevin & I picked up the car.

He took the time to walk the autotest circuit with me, pointing out little things that I thought were trivial, made me consider my entry and exit line round the cone and patiently talked me through the circuit only for me to get lost after the second cone. At the time I thought it was very good of him but ultimately a waste of his time - I was wrong, as aways Lawrence was more than one step ahead.

When I complained about the car's handling and that it needed setting up, I was told time and again that the car was fine and it's only the driver that needs the set up - again he was spot on.

He offered support, talked me through which kit I needed, which I didn't and never once tried to talk me into doing hillclimbs instead of any other forms of motorsport.

I feel fortunate that I managed to do a hillclimb with Lawrence, to share the excitement, the buzz, the pure adrenaline rush that you get when you pit yourself against your own courage. Walking the course, I realised why Lawrence had spent so much time talking and walking around the autotest circuit, it was preparation. What he said, and how he made me approach an autotest was the exact same way as I was to approach the hill, look for the exit points, look where the tarmac has been polished and where the grip still remains.

Being under Lawrence's wing (if that's were I ended up) didn't mean that you knew where you stood with him, quite the opposite, but then that was the charm of the man, I think perhaps that was his way of mental training for motorsport.

A man who was generous with his time, something that very few of us are, who opened up his garage doors to all. A man who always knew what to say and when to say it, who could keep you grounded when you needed it and lift you when you were down.

He's the kind of man I would like to be.

We'll miss you, I miss you.
