to me the only disadvantage of the cheaper MTBs is that they normally come with the Suntor forks which are not too special

I beleive some of the newer suntour forks are supposed o be pretty good for the money, although I havent tried any of them.

Morven is advising you, just point out that you'd like a bike that can be ridden up hill as well as down

I have bikes that ride up hills as well as down, just need to get them fixed thats all. My preffered bike for glentress would def be the 5 if it hadnt decided to dispense all its oil down the lowers, must get new ones soon tho, cant be slagged for pushing up hills anymore.

What a painful experience that was

Long and the short of it is that they wanted to replace the bike with an "equivalent" and since bike technology has moved on that mean "one that costs less than yours did" After using all of my cunning call centre techniques (11 years of this job have to count for something) i've managed to get a Giant Yukon 2008.5 and a new lock for about £20 more than my excess so i've not been completely done over.

Talk of cash settlements seemed to be akin to asking if you could sacrifice their first born though and was just too much to bear with all the other cr*p going on in the life of the donkey at the moment.

Ive got a 2007 yukon - i find it alright (for what i use it for) - maybe a bit heavy ?
its a grey colour though

Looks nice Martin and you shouldnt have any problems with the Hayes brakes either they are supposed to be bullet proof. Look forward to seeing it.

well i arrived and its very nice and shiny

front shock has waaaaaaaaaay more travel than my old bike and the lockout feature should be useful!

overall im very happy - surprisingly so! although the frame is worringly close to my man vegetables so i think falling off might hurt
