LOL, watchless, shoeless, but drove £1.5 million worth of cars at the last MMC day.

i'm not wealthy by any means compared to some people on here, but i have a fair wack in the bank. I dont wear a watch, and usually wear a pair of vans, jeans and a hoody.

Thankfully Graeme was a good enough salesman to not discount me on what i wear. Plenty other car salesmen have done so in the past however.

I think it depends massively on the dealer TBH.

I don't want to have to dress up just to have a look at a car.

Many many years ago I was in MMC when it was RR /Bentley/ Aston/ Lotus all in one showroom & in walks a really scruffy looking guy with a wee scabby dug with a piece of twine for a lead. I made some comment to George Patterson about him not looking like your typical customer - Georges response was don't judge the book by the cover, he was a regular who had bought several Rollers - all cash transactions.

I remember going into MMC and there was this wee scruffy bloke with a pair of bad shoes, cheap watch and a poor attempt at a beard. I was just about to leave since it was more down market than I expected when the bloke introduced himself as Graeme and tried to sell me a car!! :)

:damnfunny

I heard a story a few years ago about a young lady who went to buy an MR2; sales guy looked down at her, and was snooty - she went back about a week later with her brand new MX5 to say hello to him,... and :finger

What he was saying was in general people who can afford supercars wear nice watches and/or hand made shoes, they may also be on their way back from B&Q in paint stained jeans or tracksuit (wealthiest bloke I know wears the worlds worst tracksuits from the 80's but has a nice watch ;) ) he also tried to arrange test drives during the week with pickup at their home/place of work.

Yes it's important but I can image dealers get alot of test pilots in.

Similar to Dom's story Bosses son popped over to some BMW dealer looking for an X5 for his wife while his porker was being serviced he got ignored by the salesmen so went away and turned up a few weeks later with the equivelent lexux.

cheeeky fecker ;) quality.....Jim, you are the classic example of the "casual gent" ...at least you spend more on razors than me

We have countless tales of why you cannot judge a book by its cover.....having just dealt with over 400 Lotus enquiries in Manhattan for two weeks I can testify this is the case the world over :thumbsup

You shouldn't have to get dressed up to buy anything - with the possible exception of a nice suit, cos when trying it on it doesn't sit correctly on trainers....and maybe when buying a nice yacht, sadly something I don't have to worry about in the near future. Although some of the wee boats on the Norfolk Broads look nice

You'll need to sell that 340R first ;)

Aha, it will be a while o bargain seeker...all the new ones being built and sold just now are S's, so not so much downward pressure on NA cars...a MY10 car with the CR box at £40k-ish is a better buy than an LE long-box at £38k (my opinion)....and those "non-Lotus" dealers who advertise their 09 cars with CR box are incorrect ;)

A £40k Evora will take a looong time to hit £25k - good value for how fkin absolutely magic it is to drive (drove one tonight for the first time in a while faction) :thumbsup

There's too many for sale for prices to become stable?
Surely must still be losing at least £500/month?

The newer ones will be (small beans compared with 997 etc initial depreciation now with new model imminent ;) ) but I'd still sell a 10-plate 2+0 CR car for the same as I sold a couple of people in December, looking at PH today.....

Or just buy one anyway and have 'Loti' on the driveway ;)
