AMP3 2010 - In car video
Re: AMP3 2010 - In car video
I'd second that as a great mini-guide. The R400 is on the quicker side of most cars and I do spend a lot of track time overtaking. The main thing is to change line slowly, but confidently. I see it as my responsibility to overtake safely, not the car I'm overtaking. There's nothing worse than being tempted in to a gap that disappears so don't return to line too late.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Great advice, I had been looking for guidance on that very thing. You can see a good example of me getting stuck off line near the start of the first video. The more the differential in speed develops, the harder it becomes. Once the column starts streaming past It's quite intimidating. Keeping your speed up and moving back to take the line definitely requires confidence, in yourself and the other track users. Something to work on definitely.

I am always aware of the cars in front of me. As far as I am concerned, its the car behind who need to keep close eye on the cars in front. If one crashes into a car in front, its his fault.
What annoys me are the drivers who do not watch their mirrors. Even worse, the ones who do but don't let you pass. Always tend to be same drivers.......

Yep. And I think mirror watching is one of the toughest things for the newbies, since very often they feel tempted to look in them just when they need all their wits about them for looking forwards too...that's why quieter novice trackdays are a tremendous idea, getting people into the basics in a very non-threatening environment. Like driving itself, once you've got the trackday basics you can pretty much mix it with anyone (within reason!) I think.

Campbell, I usually find the novices good with their mirror checks. Novices are easily spotterd and all seasoned drivers give them the space they need.

Very rarely have one of those Mass, but if I do what is quite effective is to pull alongside him on the right on one of the straights, don't overtake but just smile sweetly at him.

I do that too, Tut
I also weave a lot in case they don't see me.
Still, they should know better!

I think its because the speed difference between your car against theirs is bigger than minetut wrote:Very rarely have one of those Mass....

Re: AMP3 2010 - In car video
The problem usually comes when one car is chasing another and the car in front is trying to get away - a personal race between two drivers on a track day - it happens all the time.
There is then a clear temptation to use the slower traffic as an obstacle to block the car behind, so the car in front goes for the overtake when it's questionable and the car behind has the blinkers on and barges through when in fact they should let the slower traffic have the corner, regardless of line/speed.
I have no time for clowns like this.
Cheers,
Robin

You would have to be a couple of wankers to drive like that, though as you say it does happen, but I would hope not intentionally on here.
Obviously drivers do lap together, it's half the fun, but if you get split which often happens with slower cars in front, you have the straight coming up to try and safely catch up again, and the same will happen to the cars that you were with. As on a road run, you can easily link up again.
