DIY A Service?

Post by Rich H » Mon Jan 30, 2006 12:50 am

So then gents,

What is the opinion on servicing DIY?

I'm due an A service in 1k miles and was wondering about saving a few bob. (Read: tight barsteward) Afterall my car is already 8 years/42k old and an A service is an oil change and inspections. Looking at the inspections, fluid levels, brake wear, suspension, etc I can't see anything difficult to do.

Will I suffer later on with an incomplete service history?

Failing that it looks like a trip to Falklands unless anyone has any better options?

/pikey

Cheers

I'm sure you'd have no troubles doing it yourself and probably take better care of it than some garage but the next guy to buy your car may not see it that way. If you intend to sell the car on it's probably best to have a stamp of some sort in the book, in my opinion.

Hi,
I use my mates garage in Dundee for servicing (D.L Motors -Fairfield St). I do most of the inspections myself and take the oil/service parts along to them to fit and get the book stamped. Last service cost me about £30 plus parts
They have done quite a bit of work on my Elises over the last 5 years so know the jacking points etc

Yes ,just nip in and ask Larry or Bob when they can fit you in and tell them I sent you (or you can phone them 01382 833619). I would have met you and took you around but my tax is out today and my insurance co haven't sent my new certificate out yet after changing address

I don't need it just yet, but it's good to know.
