Serious fun (not lotus but still car related)....

Post by jj » Sat Jun 03, 2006 10:36 am

Thought I`d post this up as we all like cars here......

Was down in London middle of the week with my wee bro, delivering his car to its new
buyer and picked up this when we were down. We were going to fly up, but after seeing this and doing the deal he bought it and we drove it back......

Its a mint 95 Clio Williams 2. Now, nothing fancy about that, but having spent a bit of time buzzing about in it (and 400miles up the from Essex in it on Thursday) its a great wee machine!

2.0ltr, totally standard, apart from chip, S/S zorst, decat and filter. Rolling roaded at 171bhp  I would say its faster than my old S1 ! Also has drilled discs and Pagids all round so stops well also.
Anyone here owned one before?

My mum had a 16v back in the day (bought it in 95 from memory), white with grey leather, so this is a bit of a flashback! Feels way faster than the 16v did though, but I was 12 at the time and couldnt drive....

Seems like one of those "must own at some point" cars for a lot of people, and I can see why....

Nice work on the S1 RS, thinking with the clio is spend not a lot of cash on it, keeping it A1 nick and make some £ as a bonus.

I had a mark 1 clio 172, in dark met blue (v. rare), which was a really great car. I had it for two years. When it was not on in the renault dealership being repaired, I loved it. Really unreliable though. I know I'm use & abuse my cars, but the Liz never suffered, and all other cars have been reliable. The 172 was stonkin quick for a hot hatch, would knock on the door of 150mph. Most impressive was the handling & brakes, which with 170bhp, 148 pounds foot of torque, and just over 1000 kgs, made for a great back road blast.

I would highly recommend having a run in one of these, and really drive it hard. They respond best to that... bit like a women 8) ...

Thirsty little sods thou.. when driven hard, 18 mpg was not unusual. Later models lost the hardcore edge; no aluminium bonnet, more extras (&wieght) no super soft rubber steering wheel etc.. until the trophy model. Evo magazine reckon the tophey is as quick (if not quicker) on a twisty road than a BMW M6!

Deffo a must drive car... ownership experience frustrated by unreliability.

Yip always loved these ! I kinda missed out on the 16v/williams era and had a saxo VTR then VTS which were loosley based on the clio idea.

Cars that are lots of fun for little money, clio 16V, williams, 172 etc and saxo VTR, VTS also pug 106 GTi (basically VTS with diff. skin)

Great point and squirt hatches
