Emerald K6, trouble connecting

Post by Gourlay83 » Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:16 pm

Finally got round to finishing off the TB's and setting the cam timing. I bought a K6 Emerald to complete the job but having trouble connecting.

I'm Using the USB convertor and serial lead Emerald recommend, and it finds the coms port no problem. The red light comes on (ECU) with the ignition but i can't figure out how to connect to the Emerald. When i open the software and select the coms port, it doesn't sync with the ecu.

I'm an Emerald newbie so any advice welcome, am i doing something daft ?

Alan (dying to start the SLR)

P.S The battery is on charge at the moment to rule that out.

A fair while ago since I had one Alan, but what Ports selection is it showing to choose from?

Yes, but couldn't solve the issue - everything appears to be as it should and yet "ECU no link" :-(

In that case I'd try a different cable.

Just tried a new cable and nothing. The reason I have 2 cables is I didn't realise the Emerald box had a secret chamber, containing some bumf, connector and serial cable

I'll phone Emerald tomorrow and see if they can recommend anything, they have been really helpfull so far.

Emerald sent the latest software and ECU connected. Still not starting, but didn't realise there was a calibration section for wasted spark, crank etc.

Hopefully start soon

Tried your calibration file and still no luck, also received one from Emerald which matched. They also recommended I swapped the TPS sensor wires as I was getting a intermittent signal (flashing red then green, not constant). Just in from trying that and no luck, so put it back to the way it was.

Getting p*ssed off now, need to get the thing started otherwise it's no amp3.

Alan,

The flashing green/red thing is not the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) wires is the CPS (Crank Position Sensor).

Started the car last night. Believe the crank enrichment is out as it takes for ever to start but starts fine when warm. Still learning with the Emerald but beginning to understand how it works, just wish I had a bit more time.

Couple of issues.

02 Sensor - No reading
I get no reading from 02 sensor, i've set the ecu to 'simple 02 sensor' that reads pin7 but it doesn't see it. It might be a faulty sensor as I can't confirm it ever worked.

Closed Loop
ECU isn't switching to closed loop. Possible cause could be the 02 Sensor issue. I will re set the closed loop table tonight and have another go.

Any advice welcome.

Alan

P.S Big thanks to Mike Stout for taking my wishbones away, pressing in my wishbone bushes and then re delivering them for when I get back home from work. Big Help :thumbsup
