Been a while but they were really nice when we were there, close enough to walk into town yet felt like out in the country, best of both really, hope you enjoy it.

Try Aviemore Mountain Lodges, the owners are really good people and by all accounts the lodges are finished to a great standard.

Yep you now have to be really sharp to get a good Hogmanay booking. And pay silly $$$ too. Which is why we go away the few days immediately following...very quiet, and lowest of low season pricing. After missing out on our fave post-Hogmanay retreat last year though tardiness, I booked it for 2012 within a couple of weeks of arriving back from this year's January trip!
Scotty, you might be able to get "wait listed" for places for cancellations. One of our Before-Children faves was Grieves Cottage, Arnisdale, and on enquiring, it was taken however the deposit hadn't been paid. The nice lady on the estate said if our cheque arrived before the other one, we'd get it. And we did
We also got waitlisted for Forest Holidays cabins at Ardgarten, Argyll, for my 40th last December. We got lucky then too. Or did we...that was the weekend which kicked off the M8 snow armageddon which we had to travel home in
Best of luck.
