sorry, but a phone question.....

Post by DavieK » Fri Nov 11, 2011 11:22 pm

Looking to get a cheapish smart phone (ok for a smart phone cheap) on PAYG or 15 quid and under a month. I was thinking about the HTC wildfire but not having much knowledge about phones and such like I thought I'd ask for some advice.

Cheers

I-phone ftw - although probably not on the budget suggested.
Haven't any experience of other smart phones so not much help I'm afraid

HTC wildfire is a cheapened desire, works fine and will do everything any other smartphone will do.

I've had an htc wildfire for the last 12 months, excellent all round device imo and had no problems with it .

Katie and Thomas have Samsung Galaxy Europas on three. £49.99 to buy. Fit with a SIM300 (10/month, reasonable allowance for normal people ;-)). I doubt you'll get a cheaper smartphone. It's good enough for most things, but the smaller screen means some applications/websites might be a little harder to use, so you should try to think through which apps you actually need before you buy.

Cheers,

Skye got an HTC Wildfire S for her birthday and its a great wee phone. I set it all up for her and was impressed with all the features (i Have an iPhone 4) and its operation. Touch screen is good and was able to easily download android versions of the games she liked on my iPhone from Android marketplace. Camera quality is good as well. Its got Wifi so that cuts the cost of data when she is at home. Probably the best places to buy are either through Tesco or from Three. I was with Tesco for my iPhone but when my contract was up I moved to Three as my friend works there and got me a discounted deal of 300 mins, 1Gb data, 3,000 texts and free Three to Three calls for £11.25 a month. Skye is on a similar deal to mine with Three and the monthly allowance seems to work fine for her, more than enough for me. Three's coverage seems Ok and similar to what I was getting with Tesco (O2 Network). Skye certainly finds that use gets good call and internet coverage on her HTC.

We have had cheaper phones such as the Samsung Tocca Lite and the LG Cookie and the touch screens are crap compared to the HTC

Thanks for the replies

I would use the phone for some games and surfing when I'm traveling with work (often enough get stuck in Shetland)

Last phone was the better half's old iPhone 3G but its been dropped and repaired so many times that its now FUBAR (only dropped once by me when tripping over one of the kids toys mind you)

I'll have a proper look at the wildfire now me thinks

Thanks again

I pay £15 a month for galaxy s2 with 500 mins unlimited text and data (cant remember how much?) from Vodafone. Took some bartering paid £12.50 for the handset if I took out 3 month free insurance trial. Cancel one month early to avoid continuing at a tenner a month and bought a years insurance inc loss for £50 from moneysupermarket

That is a very good deal Andrew, probably unbeatable.

Thought that we had a good one with T-Mobile, 300 mins which is more than we need, unlimited texts, does not seem to be a limit on downloads, and a free Wildfire.

I have never bothered with mobile phone insurance as my phone is covered by house insurance, as probably are most folks phones.

Good deal for a Galaxy S2 by the way :thumbsup

Had a look on their website then phoned them up, used a few online deals to barter but tbh I didn't expect to do that well. My boss has an even better deal with Orange. Same minutes etc, free HTC desire s and free home broadband for £20 a month. Always worth a phonecall, if you dont ask....

Absolutely. There are always deals to be done, so put on your best Terry Tibbs voice and go haggle. Ladders.

That is good Smee. Were you already with Vodafone? My wife was able to get a similar deal to you but I had to cancel to get them to get close to that. The thing I hate now is that everything's 24 month contracts. Grr. :-)

T-Mobile are doing a free I-phone 3GS on a 24month contract for £15.32 a month, only really suitable for light users as not many minutes/texts included.
