Skiing holiday recommendations?

I am away to book a skiing holiday abroad for one week in March, and I am looking for anyone on here who might have help with a resort choice. Looking for a hotel with excellent food, luxury rooms, and spa facilities (for the misses to use while I am away skiing for a few hours during the day). I have been to France a few times, and have stayed at La Plange, Tignes, and Val Thorens. We stayed at Chamonix after last years Tour de France and really enjoyed it, but have not been skiing there. Looking to go back to Austria again,(but open to other countries) as we had a good summer holiday in Mayerhofen a couple of years ago. We are looking at Obergurgl at the moment, as the brochures are saying that the hotels there are 5 star with excellent cuisine, and spa facilities.

Looking to book soon, so any suggestions would be welcome.

just today booked a week in Pila in Italy, Part of the Aosta Valley, Stayed at La thuile twice (part of the Aosta Valley as well) and got engaged there last year!
Highly recommend Italy. Good Price & Good snow!

We stayed in Pila 3 yrs ago on a school families trip.
Nice resort for families but quite small and not a huge selection of bars & restaurants.
The drive up to the resort is fairly spectacular but vomit inducing on the way down!

I've been going to La Clusaz in France with family & friends for the last 10 years.
Traditional village, excellent bars & restaurants, 1 hour from Geneva, great snow record, huge variety of pistes including some excellent off piste.
You can also get a lift ticket that includes Le Grande Bornard which is 10 mins by free ski bus and doubles the available ski area (total 250km).
The resort gets busy during the Paris half term but even then it's not a problem if you know where to ski.

St Anton has plenty to do in town and has some spectacular hotels. Skiing is pretty advanced, intermediates and above only i would say.
Lech, its neighbouring resort is just a short bus ride or taxi away and is for the very posh and rich only

Another option might be Mayrhofen, as its a proper town with a ski resort attached, so still lots for the missus to do whilst your away skiing.

I have heard great things about obergurgl, but not experienced it myself. I believe one of the stelvio trips had an overnight stay in obergurgl, robin might be able to tell you where he stayed.

Won't be what you are looking for but I'm very excited that I am heading here in a months time so putting it up.

Weather forecast says its dumping down powder. A week in Avoriaz, with accommodation and travel all for the price of £379. Perfect for me.

5 of us have just booked for the winter music festival in austria, maeyerhoffen, or however its spelt, i cannot wait to go. its been a fair while since i got my skis on anywhere other than scotland, should be a blast

You will like it in Mayerhofen, everything is on the main street (even one of the cable-cars starts on the main street, and the other is just a couple of minutes walk away). Bars and restaurants are plentiful with a friendly welcome atmosphere wherever you go. There was an Austrian music folk festival taking place the week that we were there, and the place was packed out of the door the whole week. Highly recommended.

Ps local beer is very good

I'm just back from Alpendorf (connected to Wagrain / Flachau), there was a massive dump of snow on Sat, so very good conditions. Alpendorf has several 4 star hotels and 1 5star, they all have the pampering / wellness centres. Alpendorf itself is the mountain village so hotels, ski lifts and restraunts. St Johan the main town is 5 mins away and has all the fashion shops, train to salzburg (40km away) etc. Lots of alternative ski areas to pick from for variety & day trips if that's what your after.

If you just want a walk around town maybe Kitzbuhel or Zell am See

I had a quick look at this hotel last night, and it looks really good.
Only downside that I could see, was that the flights were from Manchester. Edinburgh is preferable, as hoping to drop off Elise to MMC for a service, but this could be done either side of the holiday.

Haha, I looked at attendees as well, seeing as we will be spending a lot of time on the bus with them I had to make sure the talent was good. Still can't convey my excitement for the whole thing.

You mean you were out for a party! Snow was a bit late this year, but it certainly arrived last Saturday. 12" fell in less than 4 hours at Muhlbach, every run seemed like fresh powder, but that was partly down to the wind. To be honest the conditions were terrible but the skiing was great, so ideal for those who have experienced skiing in Scotland. This resulted in 3 of us with 2 lifts to ourselves for the last 2 hours of the day. We teamed up for safety if nothing else and had a funny last couple of hours, 1 German, 1 Czech and 1 Scotsman, with barely a word in common. Good fun.

Back out on the 7th Jan for a week - can't wait.
