Fintray Hill

Post by fd » Wed Jun 05, 2013 10:13 pm

Well, haven't been to Fintray since Eric's fateful day a couple of years ago, and returned on the day of his return . . . thankfully this time it was dry . . . no real objectives apart from to have some fun and see how the times panned out . . .

I like the event, the people, the vibe, but I am probably more worried about Fintray than Doune . . . and have always been so . . . no room to manouver but enough room to be going fast enough into trees . . . never a good thing . . . the single seater tends to make that somewhat more stressful . . .

Still trying to get the car (and in reality my head) to work on the hills . . . but getting there . . . only a couple of tenths behind my realistic target . . .

Here's why I think it's scary . . . look at where it's going . . . that hairpin is a right bugger . . . suspect the LSD is the root cause of this . . .

Finally a mediocre 3rd in class . . . but that will do for me, another couple of tenths are easily possible then we're into some proper times . . . a gearing change would help a lot and I have the parts in my grubby hands, perhaps have a play at Doune . . .

The counter steering is something new, and a good sign I think . . . familiarity with the car is coming at last . . .

On the subject of power to weight and performance . . . ;-)

Here's the Dr of Moustaches Les Mutch in his 3?? bhp V6 Dax Rush with probably about the same power to weight as my single seater . . . look at how the cars work, oversteer vs understeer . . . so it's not just power to weight . . . and different cars work better in different circumstances ;-)

PS I'd love to run the single seater round KH, turn the wings down, fit a long final drive ratio, try not to melt the tyres or the engine in the first lap . . . would be fun . . . I'd need to fit another rad to get more than 1 lap tho' ;-)

As ever, very impressed! As you mention, the run off looks very unwelcoming.

Thanks for sharing FD. :thumbsup
